Abstract: The master’s thesis is aimed at the development of an intelligent parking system that allows users to efficiently find free spaces in parking zones and keeps records of parking usage. The system provides interaction between a user that uses a client application and an identification method that is implemented in the parking area. The project of the system involves the development of a native mobile application for the Android operating system, which allows drivers to find a free parking space and reserve it. At the same time, the system gives a possibility of registering every entry and exit of the car in the parking lot by scanning the QR codes placed on bay entrances through the built-in camera of the driver’s smartphone. The client application is developed in the Java programming language. System interaction is implemented using a real-time cloud database and the authentication tool, both provided by Google Firebase service. The technologies used provide system users with up-to-date information about parking lots in real time mode. The demand for parking spaces is growing, and what cities can offer is not always enough for drivers. Thus, the problem of organizing the process and developing the parking culture grows every year. The latest polls conducted in 2019 show that 43% of surveyed residents already own a car.[1] According to statistics, every third car on the road is looking for a free parking space and spends 5-20 minutes on average. Hence, it causes the problems of traffic jams, busy streets, excessive use of fuel and, accordingly, air pollution with harmful emissions.[2] It also causes increase of stress levels for drivers as well as for pedestrians. High-quality organization of parking zones can solve the problems of urban planning that are common today, as well as increase the income of local budgets and create a new space for the development of entrepreneurship. In addition to financial aspects, the organization of comfortable parking zones significantly increases the level of quality of life and satisfaction of local residents. In particular, the improvement of infrastructure has a significant impact on the development of the city’s tourism industry. A parking zone, a parking lot, is a place specially designed for parking a vehicle. Three types of parking lots are defined: on ground, above ground and underground. In the fast-paced life of modern cities, the organization of parking culture is still a problem that is becoming more and more difficult. The need for effective parking management systems is growing rapidly as the number of cars on the road increases. In Ukraine and in the world today, there are many solutions for improving the quality of parking lots in cities, useful both for their owners and for the drivers themselves. One of the most common solutions is parking automation. The implementation of information systems, in particular, allows reducing the costs of operators involved in the maintenance of parking lots, promotes safety and provides the possibility of control and audit. There are many information technology solutions for improving the quality of life in cities. Facilitating the process of finding free parking spaces is one of the areas where information systems can be used. The implementation of such solutions not only increases the comfort level of drivers and ordinary citizens, but can also positively affect the ecological situation in the city. Reducing the time spent looking for a free parking space directly affects the reduction of the amount of harmful gases that the car emits into the atmosphere while wandering around the city. Development of such systems can also assist parking owners or managers by providing traffic flow monitoring for usage analysis and future improvement. Study object - the storage and processing of information about parking lots and the availability of free spaces on them, as well as the organization of the process of their use. Scope of research - the methods and means of developing a project of information system for parking space reservation. Goal of research: creating an information system for booking and using parking spaces, which would help drivers easily find a free space at the right location and, if necessary, book it in advance. This will save them the time they would have spent wandering around the neighborhood looking for a free place to leave their car.
