Abstract: Coconut oil-based monomers (ССМ) were synthesized via a one-step transesterification reaction with N-(hydroxyethyl)acrylamide. Chemical composition of CCM is dominated by monomer molecules with saturated fatty acid fragmentss, which determines the peculiarities of the kinetics of its free-radical polymerization. The reactivity in radical copolymerization of CCM with styrene was investigated, and the reactivity ratios and Q - e parameters of CCM were determined. CCM is a potential candidate for copolymerization with commercial monomers to form copolymers with adjustable physico-chemical and thermomechanical properties. Stable polymer dispersions (latexes) were obtained during mimiemulsion copolymerization of CCM with styrene. The main physicomechanical properties of polymer films based on latexes of CCM were determined, and the plasticization effect was established. Keywords: Coconut oil, Coconut oil-based monomers, Transesterification, Saturated fatty acids, Free radical polymerization, Miniemulsion polymerization.
