Visual content in travel blogs on the Instagram social network: specifics and development prospects

Abstract: Taking into account the dynamic development in the field of travel information activities of both users and professional content authors, this study needs to analyze the visual photo content and features of travel-themed blogs in the social network Instagram using quantitative and qualitative tools that will help determine the effectiveness and relevance of visual content with textual content. The research topic is also relevant due to the fact that there are practically no studies on the analysis of visual content in travel blogs on the Instagram social network. The importance and value of visual content and the need for photo content analysis is growing in accordance with the challenges of time and the popularity of the travel theme. The purpose of the study is to find out the specifics and perspectives of visual content in travel blogs on the Instagram social network. We analyzed the visual content of Ukrainian travel bloggers on the Instagram social network, not only personal ones, but also those who use their blogs to promote and sell tourist services. Here, it was found that photos that contain emotional elements in the frame best convey content and gain audience engagement. We learned that Ukrainian travel content presented on the Instagram social network is a powerful component of information support in the tourism sector, creates a competitive environment for travel companies, and is in demand among users due to its originality, media value and objectivity. Thanks to the review of the visual content of foreign travel bloggers, we adopted the experience for further analysis and creation of Ukrainian visual travel content. It is understood that the visual content of foreign travel bloggers is significantly different from the Ukrainian one, since the logs themselves present other topics and stories. The object of the study is the visual content of travel blogs on the travel theme in the Instagram social network. The subject of the research is compositional and content properties of visual content in the travel blogs "khrystyna.zhuk", "hanna.burlaka", "paul_shvydun", "saltyluxe", "jackmorris", "traveljournal" in the Instagram social network.
