Abstract: large number of traffic accidents on the country’s roads occur due to the loss of stability of cars, caused, among other things, by the unsatisfactory condition of the surface and the effect of side winds. In this case, special attention should be focused on vehicles with a large wind speed - trucks and buses. Buses are a particularly important problem, as they have less axle load and are designed to carry a large number of people. Therefore, the work aimed at determining the conditions of the effect of side wind on the transverse stability of the car using the example of a bus is relevant. The object of research is vehicle stability. The subject of the study is the effect of side wind on the transverse stability of the car. The purpose of the study: determination of the conditions of the influence of side wind on the lateral stability of the car using the example of a bus to improve the study of the circumstances of the mechanism of traffic accidents that arose due to the reasons for the loss of stability of vehicles. The requirements for filling out the decree on the appointment of a forensic auto-technical examination are given, the main causes of traffic accidents are analyzed. Features of vehicle skidding are described. Information about the characteristics of the wind at the site of the traffic accident is provided. The method of determining the lateral force of the wind acting on the vehicle is outlined. The method of determining the coordinates of the center of windage and the study of the influence of the side wind on the static stability of the transverse ATZ on the road with a transverse slope is presented. The conditions for the occurrence of drift under the action of a side wind are given. An analysis of the stability of motor vehicles against the effect of side wind was carried out on the example of a bus, and the impact of the side wind force on the bus was determined. The definition of the traction force and the possibility of the beginning of slipping of the bus wheels is given. The limit parameters of the loss of stability of the bus under the specified conditions were determined. Key words – car, bus, traffic accident, stability, crosswind, sail area, car skidding.
