Abstract: The master’s thesis examines an important aspect of modern social and geopolitical development, namely volunteer cooperation between Poland and Ukraine during the war. This work aims to carefully analyze this fruitful experience of joint efforts in two neighboring countries and reveal its key aspects. The object of the research is the phenomenon of volunteer cooperation, activities, initiatives and partnerships that arise between volunteers from Poland and Ukraine during the war, and the subject is the experience of volunteers, the types of help and support they provide, the role of the government and non-governmental organizations in facilitating or obstacles to such cooperation, the influence of cultural and historical ties on the dynamics of the volunteer movement and the consequences of this cooperation for relations between Ukraine and Poland. The purpose of the work is to analyze the theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of volunteer cooperation between Poland and Ukraine during the war. Chapter one of the research delves into theoretical perspectives regarding the examination of the volunteer movement. The primary viewpoints on the comprehension and conceptualization of the volunteer movement, along with its functions and classifications, are elucidated. The volunteer movement is identified as a social endeavor involving the voluntary execution of activities for societal benefit. Volunteers, defined as individuals who altruistically engage in unpaid work for the well-being of others, exemplify this movement. Although the volunteer movement can manifest in various forms, its overarching objective remains the provision of aid to those in need. The second chapter scrutinizes the legal framework governing the volunteer movement during wartime, alongside the fundamental principles of the volunteer movement in Ukraine amid the conflict with Russia. The intricacies of the volunteer movement’s development in Ukraine under the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war 5 are systematically examined. The regulatory and legal foundation of the volunteer movement in Ukraine encompasses the Constitution of Ukraine, the laws of Ukraine pertaining to volunteering and charitable organizations, and other relevant legislative acts. The exigencies of the Russian-Ukrainian war precipitated a substantial upsurge in volunteer activity, with individuals nationwide coming together to offer aid to war victims across diverse domains such as humanitarian, medical, psychological, and refugee assistance. Chapter three scrutinizes the Polish-Ukrainian volunteer movement, exploring its genesis and present status. The study analyzes challenges and prospects for the evolution of Polish-Ukrainian volunteer collaboration. The Polish-Ukrainian volunteer movement, with roots dating back to World War II, experienced renewed momentum following the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The contemporary iteration of the Polish-Ukrainian volunteer movement is characterized by notable dynamism and diversity. Volunteers from both Poland and Ukraine collaborate to extend aid to war victims within the territories of both nations. Challenges in the development of Polish-Ukrainian volunteer cooperation are associated with cultural and linguistic barriers, coupled with insufficient financial support. Prospects for the future development of Polish-Ukrainian volunteer cooperation hinge on the deepening of relations between the two countries. The successful collaboration of volunteers from Poland and Ukraine holds the potential to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the respective populations. The research presents novel scientific findings that can serve as valuable contributions to further studies on the volunteer movement, particularly within the context of Polish-Ukrainian collaboration. The findings underscore the significance of Polish-Ukrainian volunteer cooperation as a pivotal factor in fortifying bilateral relations amid the challenges of war, showcasing its potential for ongoing growth and positive impact.
