Abstract: Sports are an integral part of human life. The network of sports, physical culture and sports and sports and recreation facilities is considered to be diverse and, at the same time, almost the most complex of all other public service systems. In modern conditions of the city and suburban environment there is a rise in interest in historical recreation centers. Recreation is a valuable component of human life. Among the general concepts of recreation - the restoration of physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, intellectual strength of man. Activation of these processes is the result of numerous deep socio-cultural processes that occur at different levels of socio-political, communicative-psychological, intellectual, ethical and aesthetic, and others. human development of the third millennium. Currently, programs are being implemented to create sports facilities with a focus on certain sports. Sport is becoming multifunctional and multidimensional. Certain requirements for the construction and equipment of sports and recreation facilities are put forward - sports games, gymnastics, sports competitions, therapeutic and preventive physical education: physical culture and health culture of the population. Architects are faced with the task - to find the right solutions that would meet the new high demands of today’s sports culture - the harmonious development of physical and spiritual strength of man of the third millennium. The organization of spatial-planning and architectural-environmental characteristics of multifunctional sports complexes remains insufficiently studied. The purpose of the work is to determine the characteristic features of architectural solutions of sports and health complexes based on water resources in the suburban area of a large city (for example, Lake Navariya). The object of research is sports and health facilities. The subject of research is the formation of sports and recreation facilities in recreational areas. Objectives of the study: definition of basic concepts, analysis of practical experience in the formation of sports and recreation facilities; coverage of factors influencing the formation of sports and health facilities; typological features of planning and three-dimensional architecture of sports and recreation complexes in the recreational areas of the suburban area of the big city. Scientific novelty: the work most fully and comprehensively considers the bright examples of sports and health complexes in the context of the XX - early XX centuries. XXI century. taking into account the current conditions of multifunctionality of such complexes at the present time. The practical significance of the work is that its provisions and the results of the study of sports and recreation facilities can be used in training courses and lectures for students of architectural specialties and design. Publications: materials of theses of the VII local lore conference "Historical monuments of Galicia" (March 13, 2020, Ivan Franko Lviv National University, Lviv) were published on the research topic. Sports and recreation facilities are a system that is directly related to the intensive development of society, characterized by features of reorientation, active search for new ideas and the introduction of the latest tools for project solutions. The construction of multifunctional sports complexes is dictated by the search for promising ways to improve sports facilities in the direction of integration of sports and its achievements, sports and health and cultural and entertainment functions in a single volume. There is an increasing need of the population for active leisure, which leads to the integration of both physical culture and sports and health activities. The study of the experience of world architecture will promote a better understanding and orientation in the manifestations of modern trends, styles, trends in its development. Dominant in the development of the design and construction of sports and recreation complexes is the versatility and, at the same time, the practicality of the building; preservation of the environment; implementation the most modern technologies taking into account the landscape; special attention to compliance with all requirements for the preservation of the ecological situation of the territory. The modern pace of life requires a qualitatively new architecture. Undoubtedly, the value is represented by such sports and health facilities, where modern architectural-planning and creative design ideas are harmoniously combined with environmental problems. In accordance with the needs of modern man, his well-being, healthy lifestyle in the family, family or group of people, his emotional comfort and good mood - it becomes important to create a favorable environment where architectural structures play a particularly important role. The formation of sports and health complexes is relevant, where the spatial dimension of the sports space meets the needs of human leisure with the involvement of various types of modern sports. There is a tendency to converge professional and amateur sports, which determines the level of architectural objects, which are characterized by combining them into a single complex, as a manifestation of trends in today’s society and sports. Favorable geographical location, richness and diversity of natural conditions, recreational resources, historical and cultural potential of the suburban zone of Lviv create favorable conditions for finding a balance between social needs and commerce with a focus on the harmonious development of the population. The network of the Dniester, Western Bug, Stryi and other rivers is favorable for active recreation and health improvement (sports and health and water sports complexes). It is promising to study, taking into account the world experience of development of historical recreational centers in the suburban area of the big city. In the context of studying the topic of the proposed study, surveys of the territory of Lake Navariya (Shchyrets Reservoir) on the river Shchyrka (Dniester basin) were conducted. Particular attention should be paid to the revitalization of the water reservoir and the coastal areas of Lake Navariya in the Lviv region. To form a new vision of the recreational space in modern conditions and to increase the efficiency of the recreational environment, we conducted additional observations. The results of the survey allow to draw some conclusions about the feasibility of limiting the felling of greenery in order to preserve the microclimate, adhere to sanitary norms of conservation of water protection zones, create appropriate infrastructure to restore sports and recreational tourism potential of the suburban zone of Lviv. It is important to develop the area by building a multifunctional sports and recreation water complex.
