Мета вивчення дисципліни: studying and mastering the methods of calculating the simplest structural elements and machine parts for strength, stiffness and stability.
Завдання: The main task of the discipline "Resistance of materials" is the study of methods for calculating the strength, rigidity and stability of the simplest structural elements and machine parts. The study of an academic discipline involves the formation and development of the following competencies in students: Integral competence: • the ability to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems in the field of hydraulic construction, water engineering and water technologies, characterized by complexity and uncertainty of conditions, based on the application of theories and methods of natural and engineering sciences. General competences: • ability to abstract thinking, analysis and synthesis; • knowledge and understanding of the subject area and professional activity; • skills in using information and communication technologies; • the ability to learn and master modern knowledge; • the ability to evaluate and ensure the quality of performed works; Professional competences: • the ability to effectively use modern building materials, products and structures in the design, construction and reconstruction of objects of professional activity; • Ability to determine and evaluate loads and stress-strain states of soil foundations and engineering structures.
Learning outcomes: • knowledge of the theoretical bases of calculations for the strength, rigidity and stability of machine parts in the amount required for solving specific production-technological, design and research problems; • the ability to perform design calculations of the main elements of machines and engineering structures, rationally calculate the geometry of these elements and select materials for their manufacture, ensuring integrity, reliability, durability and high work efficiency; • having an idea of the main directions of the development of material resistance and the possibilities of its practical application.
Required prior and related subjects: • High Mathematics (linear algebra, analytic geometry, mathematical analysis, derivatives and integrals of functions); • Physics (mechanics); • Theoretical mechanics (statics, kinematics, dynamics).
Summary of the subject: The resistance of materials is one of the sections of the mechanics of a real solid body that can deform under the influence of external forces applied to it. Unlike theoretical mechanics, in which bodies are considered absolutely solid, here the main attention is paid to the study of deformations. The study of such engineering disciplines as materials science, soil and foundation mechanics, mechanical equipment of buildings and structures, construction mechanics and others is based on the conclusions of this discipline. Knowledge of the resistance of materials and construction mechanics is necessary for mastering many sections of special and general engineering disciplines, which study the laws of elastic deformation of materials, methods of calculating elastic systems and structural elements, their strength, stiffness and stability. The study of the resistance of materials provides knowledge for understanding mechanical phenomena and the behavior of structural elements of machines, buildings and other equipment, which must be taken into account in the practice of design and operation, as well as for the independent solution of new technological and design tasks that will be encountered by future specialists in practical activities.
Опис: Name of topics: • Introduction. Tasks and basic concepts of the resistance of materials course. • Tension and compression of rods. • Calculation of rod structures for tensile-compressive strength. • Mechanical characteristics of the material. • Analysis of a complex stress state. • Strength theories. • Geometric characteristics of cross sections. • Shift. • Beam bending. • Tension in the beam. • Beam deformation. • Torsion. • Stability of the centrally compressed rod.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Current control; • Written work (solving problems, tests); • Oral survey (individual and face-to-face). Evaluation of the student's current control is carried out based on the result of successful performance and defense of laboratory and calculation-graphic works, for part-time students - performance of control works. The form of semester control is an exam.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: • reports on laboratory work, oral survey, calculation and graphic works (40%); • final control (exam): written form (50%), oral form (10%).
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
