Engineering Hydraulics

Major: Hydrotechnical Construction, Water Engineering and Water Technologies
Code of subject: 6.194.00.O.027
Credits: 5.00
Department: Department of Hydraulic and Water Engineering
Lecturer: PhD Ivan Matlai
Semester: 4 семестр
Mode of study: денна
Learning outcomes: PH1. Formulate tasks for solving problem situations in professional and/or academic activities. PH3. Perform experimental studies of water flow, evaluate and justify the significance of their results in the design of professional activities. PH7. Perform engineering calculations of soil foundations and structures of objects of professional activity.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites: • Physics, • Technical mechanics of liquids and gases, • Fundamentals of hydraulic engineering.
Summary of the subject: Uniform flows of water in open channels. Normal depth. Hydraulically most efficient cross-section of the channel. Steady varied flows of water in open channels. Critical depth and critical slope. Longitudinal flow profiles of varied flows. Flows through the spillways, weirs, sluice gates, drop structures. Hydraulic jump. Spillways flow routing. Energy dissipation. Pressure and non-pressure underground filtration flows.
Assessment methods and criteria: • current oral examination (30%) • final control (exam): written-oral form (70%)
