Learning outcomes: - knowledge and understanding of modern scientific theories and methods, and the ability to apply them effectively for developing and improving instruments for measuring fluids flowrate; - knowledge of modern methods for analysis, mathematical modeling of fluids in flowmeters and trends in their development; - ability to study hydro-gas-dynamic phenomena in flowmeters, their impact on the measured flow parameters and the uncertainty of the measured flowrate, on the basis of which to form proposals for improving the design of the flowmeter or to clarify the conditions of its application; - ability to improve the mathematical model of the flowmeter based on the results of experimental research and the results of CFD-modeling; - ability to apply improved mathematical models to analyse the error of the flowmeter in conditions of distorted flow structure; - ability to apply a system approach while developing the systems for measuring the flowrate and quantity of the fluid, integrating knowledge from other disciplines and taking into account non-technical aspects.

Summary of the subject: The discipline involves the study of the current state of development of instruments for measuring flowrate and quantity (IMFQ) of fluids. The requirements to the installation of IMFQ and their application conditions, hydro- and gas-dynamic effects in the measuring sections of pipelines, the sources of their occurrence are considered. Methods of eliminating the influence of hydro-, gas-dynamic phenomena in the measuring sections of pipelines on the results of measuring flowrate and quantity of fluids. The impact of hydro-, gas-dynamic effects in measuring pipelines on the uncertainty of flowrate measurement by means of variable pressure flowmeters, ultrasonic flowmeters and tachometric gas meters is considered. Application of computational dynamics methods (CFD) for modeling gas-dynamic effects in measuring pipelines and flowmeters. Modern software packages for CFD-modeling of fluid flows are considered.
