Мета вивчення дисципліни: The educational discipline "Light and color in design" provides students with systematic scientific knowledge about the nature of color and light, its physical and psychological properties. The course contributes to the identification and development of the coloristic abilities of the student-designer. Based on the study of historical experience, modern scientific achievements and the analysis of design practice, the course allows you to master the specifics of the use of light and methods of color solutions in design. The study of the proposed academic discipline requires a creative approach from students, focuses on the independent search for ideas and the basis of original solutions for the implementation of the set practical tasks, requires them to process additional visual information and literature.
Завдання: The study of an academic discipline involves the formation and development of students' competencies. INT. The ability to solve complex tasks and problems in the field of design or in the learning process, which involves conducting research and/or implementing innovations and is characterized by uncertainty of conditions and requirements. General competences (CG) ZK2. Ability to identify, pose and solve problems. ZK3. Ability to communicate with representatives of other professional groups at different levels (with experts from other fields of knowledge/types of economic activity). Special competences of the specialty (KS) KS5. Possession of theoretical and methodical principles of training and integrated approaches to the professional training of designers; planning one's own scientific and pedagogical activities. KS6. The ability to apply expressive artistic and plastic possibilities of various types of materials, innovative methods and technologies in design practice. KS7. The ability to use special drawing and painting tools (according to specializations), as well as methods of using computer technology hardware and software. KS9. Ability to create a design product (goods and services) in demand on the market and socially responsible.
Learning outcomes: As a result of training, the student must be able to demonstrate the following training results: 1. Know the methods of finding ideas for light and shade solutions depending on the structural, constructive and formal features of the designed object. 2. Be able to choose, depending on the requirements of the project situation, the most appropriate methods of coloristic and chiaroscuro solution to the project task. 3. To master the specifics of the use of light and methods of color solutions in design. As a result of training, the student must be able to demonstrate the following program learning outcomes: RN 1. To generate ideas for the development of creative design proposals, to build a high-quality and extensive communication system, to apply the world's leading concepts of visual communication in the artistic and cultural spheres. RN 2. Develop, form and control the main stages of project implementation. RN 3. Critically interpret theories, principles, methods and concepts from various subject areas to solve tasks and problems in the field of design, be able to creatively combine them to solve one's own creative problem. RN 4. Carry out a pre-design analysis taking into account all significant factors affecting the design object. RN 5. Critically study the artistic and design work of Ukrainian and foreign specialists, apply modern methods and technologies of scientific analysis for the formation of the author's concept, the search for the Ukrainian national style. RN 6. Determine the aesthetic problems of design schools and directions, taking into account the genesis of the modern artistic process in design; have a synthetic idea about the history of the formation of modern visual culture. RN 7. Present the conceptual solution of design objects by means of the latest technologies, apply the techniques of graphic presentation when solving artistic and design tasks (by specialization). RN 8. Ability to communicate, including oral and written communication in Ukrainian and foreign languages (English, German, Italian, French, Spanish). RN 9. The ability to use various methods, including modern information technologies, for effective communication at the professional and social levels. RN 10. Ability to adapt to new situations and make appropriate decisions. RN 11. The ability to realize the need for lifelong learning in order to deepen acquired new professional knowledge. RN 12. The ability to take responsibility for the work performed, to make decisions independently, to achieve the set goal in compliance with the requirements of professional ethics. RN 13. The ability to popularize the assets of the national and world cultural heritage, as well as to promote manifestations of patriotism, national self-awareness and ethno-cultural self-identification. RN 14. The ability to form environmental consciousness and personal culture, to apply ecological principles in life and professional activity.
Required prior and related subjects: Previous and related academic disciplines: Complex design Semiotics of design Advertising theory and corporate style The main trends in the development of modern design The following academic disciplines: Ergonomic design Course project on the subject of the master's qualification thesis
Summary of the subject: The course "Light and color in design" is designed for one semester of study, covers a total of 90 hours and structurally includes the main practical and additional theoretical parts. Having a common goal related to the general training of a designer student, each of the parts has its own specificity, which is manifested in a different sequence of presentation and assimilation of knowledge within the general structure of the course. A lecture course on the discipline is a logically structured, scientifically based and systematized presentation of the material, which is supported by visual aids and a demonstration of illustrated material. Students get acquainted with modern experience and progressive design ideas in planning, design and light-color solution of urban forms.
Опис: Lecture 1. The role of light and color in the perception of the environment. Lecture 2. Light and color in the urban environment. Lecture 3. Normative requirements. State building regulations. Lecture 4. Psychology of color in the interior. Lecture 5. Psychology of color in graphic design. Lecture 6. Lighting design of public spaces. Lecture 7. Light design of residential premises. The purpose of practical classes is to deepen and detail the knowledge gained at lectures and in the process of independent work of students, aimed at assimilating and consolidating the educational material, as well as at the development of students' thinking and oral speech. Practical classes contribute to the development of creative independence of students, deepen their interest in science and scientific research, educate pedagogical tact, develop language culture, skills and skills of public speaking, participation in discussions. The practical course is designed to highlight the range of general issues of lighting technology, as well as its role in the formation of psychophysical perception by a person. The educational discipline includes: physical foundations of the science of light and color; psychophysical basis of visual perception of light-colored irritation of the retina; coloristic basics of the science of light; the use of light and color in the complex design of spatial systems.
Assessment methods and criteria: During the semester, a student can earn 45 points for practical work. At the exam, the student receives oral questions according to the theoretical material taught in lectures, for the answer of which a maximum of 55 points can be scored.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: The evaluation component of the practical task (45 points) is a variant of successful, rational, professional lighting of the selected object; performance technique; layout and design on the format. Test final control at the State Emergency Service of Lviv Polytechnic - 55 points.
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
