PRNV2.1. Understand the importance and meaning of pre-project research, analog analysis and be able to use the obtained results in the design of visual communications.

PRNV2.5. Solve functional tasks taking into account the properties of materials and features of structural constructions, apply the latest technologies in the creation of a modern final product in the design of visual communications.

There is a study and application in the design of the principles of artistic solution of the main types of printed products: shape, rhythm, proportions, tone of font compositions, awareness of their dependence on modern printing technologies; mastering the artistic means of transmitting written information. and mastering the means of graphic expression of writing, image, decor. Willingness to perform complex design tasks related to printing design. Mastering the laws of step-by-step and methodical project work on font compositions. As a result of studying the discipline, the student must understand: the purpose and place of the course "Typography" in the general system of professional training of the designer; the specifics of the application of design tools and methods in the process of graphic design; regularities and methods of formation of graphic form of printed products; know: - such categories of designer's design activity as: graphic image, professional terminology related to the process of printing production; main categories, methods, rules of project activity; methods of searching for ideas for graphic design of models of magazines, books, booklets, etc., as well as the development of basic types of printing advertising; be able to choose the best methods for solving problems related to the operation of the font and graphics; taking into account printing technology, depending on the specific design task.

Summary of the subject: The theoretical part of the course teaches materials that highlight the basic principles of design solutions for all types of printing products. The history of the development of writing, fonts and textual forms of communication is given. The historical development of printed products is traced, as well as compositional, formative, color analysis of printing objects, including those related to advertising. The system design of the main types of printing products is considered, which covers the development of informational or pictorial elements, systematic construction of a book or book series, magazine with a comprehensive development of headings, subheadings, sections and titles. In the practical part of the course the main approaches and stages to the process of project work of font compositions, search of ideas, work on the sketch part of the project, creation of the original layout, additional tasks related to the quality of the layout are methodically set. The course work involves the development of a set of own font, font booklet, and information poster, the design of which is formed on the basis of font compositions.
Assessment methods and criteria: Current control: lectures, seminars - 20%, sketch of the font design idea - 20%; final control: course work - 40%; explanatory note to the course work 20%.
100-88 points - grade "A" ("excellent") is awarded if the student demonstrates a high level of knowledge of the educational material in the given volume, necessary the level of abilities and skills, correctly and reasonably makes the necessary decisions in various non-standard situations, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently responds to the questions, as well as being able to apply theoretical provisions during solving practical tasks;
87-80 points - grade B ("very good") is awarded for knowledge of the educational material module above average level, including calculations, reasoned answers to asked questions (certain inaccuracies are possible), the ability to apply theoretical ones position during solving practical problems;
79-71 points - grade C ("good") is awarded for a generally correct understanding by the student
educational material, including reasoned answers to the questions (certain (insignificant) flaws are possible). The student has mastered the basic theoretical material and is able to use knowledge to solve standard problems;
70-61 points - grade D ("mediocre") is awarded for mediocre academic knowledge module material, poorly reasoned answers, weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems, and the transformation of skills in new conditions causes certain difficulty;
60-50 points - grade E ("satisfactory") is given for weak knowledge of the module's educational material, inaccurate or unargued answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical knowledge in practice, which, however, is not an obstacle to
further education;
49-26 points - the grade FX ("unsatisfactory" with the possibility of re-scoring) is awarded for ignorance of the main part of the educational material of the module, significant errors in answers to questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems;
25-00 points grade F ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study of the module) presented for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the module, significant mistakes in answering questions, inability to orient oneself during solving practical problems, ignorance of basic fundamental provisions.
