Learning outcomes: The study of the discipline "Restoration of stone sculpture (part 2)" is to master the methods and technology of restoration of stone sculpture, the development of technical and analytical thinking. Acquaintance of the student with a technique of studying and use of originals and analogues at restoration of a sculpture from a stone, mastering of a technique of performance of clearing, salting, strengthening, gluing and addition of a stone sculpture and technics and technology of selection of materials in restoration, and also preparation of students associated with the restoration of stone. The course is designed to form a student-restorer as a specialist who will be able to organically apply in practice their own level of knowledge and creative skills in the restoration of stone sculpture
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisite: History of decorative and applied arts, restoration materials science, historical techniques and technologies of stone processing. Co-requisites: conceptual and terminological apparatus, methodology.
Summary of the subject: The discipline "Restoration of stone sculpture" is based on the study of the following educational blocks - acquaintance with the main types of natural and artificial stone, their composition, technical characteristics and properties. Study of methods before design research in the implementation of restoration work on stone sculpture, visual scientific and technological examination of a work of art of stone, determining the degree of preservation and contamination, material, style. Elaboration of survey algorithm. Sampling for research of color, salinity, biological damage. Execution of sections. Carrying out measurements on the basis of which the sampling cartogram and the loss cartogram are performed, indicating all available damages. Methods of compiling a program of restoration work. Study of methods of clearing, gluing, supplementing and reconstruction of missing parts of a work of art, strengthening and hydrophobicization of stone sculpture. The possibility of using synthetic polymers, pigments, biocides and antiseptics used in restoration for restoration is being studied. The study of artificial masses used in the restoration of works of art from stone. The study of the discipline is the method of sequential teaching of material in the form of thematic blocks.
Assessment methods and criteria: Current control (30%): oral interviews, speeches at seminars, pair work. - Final control (70%): written and oral control, defense of practical work.
