Learning outcomes: 1. Be able to apply the laws of thermodynamics, elements of phase equilibria, and studies of solutions in modern scientific researches of the theory of arts, architecture, and restoration. 2. Be able to apply the knowledge of chemical kinetics in restoration. 3. Be able to use the knowledge of properties of disperse systems, aggregation and dispersion processes that accompany the formation of disperse systems to solve issues in the art restoration technology. 4. Be able to use methods and examples of physical and colloid chemistry in restoration. 5. Be able to mathematically and graphically solve problems based on obtained data, summarize such problems, and relate them with the practical use according to the major.
Required prior and related subjects: Biology Specialty Chemistry Natural Stone Materials Science
Summary of the subject: Chemical thermodynamics, equilibrium analysis of chemical reactions, equilibrium in one-component systems. Thermodynamics of electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions. Kinetics of simple reactions, the temperature effect on the reaction rate, and the concept of catalysis. Features and classification of dispersed systems. Surface phenomena (adhesion, wetting, capillary phenomena). Adsorption equilibria. Electrical properties of colloidal systems. Aggregative stability of dispersed systems. Optical and molecular kinetic properties of dispersed systems
Assessment methods and criteria: • Written reports on laboratory works, oral examination, test (40%) • • Final control – a differential test in the written-oral form (60%)
