Major: Design
Code of subject: 7.022.01.O.10
Credits: 3.00
Department: Design and Architecture Fundamentals
Lecturer: Ruslan Halyshych, Philosopher Ph.D., Assistant Professor
Semester: 2 семестр

Learning outcomes: Be able to assess the initial situation of the project task on the basis of existing analogues of graphic design, environmental design and multimedia design. Know the main types and kinds of sign systems that provide visual communication, as well as the main carriers of visual communication. To know the laws of step-by-step and methodical design of information signs, identification and navigation signs and their complex application in the subject environment in cyberspace. Be aware of the psychological stimuli and motives of the target audience that determine the nature of the design. To make a socio-economic analysis of enterprises, social organizations and institutions to create a design program that would respond comprehensively to the tasks. Take into account auxiliary socio-economic factors that determine the formation of sign and subject-spatial systems of informative nature. Understand the functioning of basic models of sign systems of visual identification in the subject-spatial environment and in the multimedia space. Be able to develop a sign system of visual identification, with its subsequent development into subject-spatial design. Know the basics of stylistic search for identification marks, navigation of image images, subject formation depending on the specifics of the cultural and subject-spatial environment of the selected design object. Be able to design sign systems, optimally responding to the technical and design task, where informativeness, identification and orientation is the main project task, which implements optimal visual communication, artistic design and organization of ensemble subject-spatial complexes. Apply in practice the key provisions of the theory of communication, theories of subject-spatial organization and the main rules of artistic formation of environmental objects. Be able to perform social and consumer social tasks by means of design. The practical tasks of the course allow, as a result of the acquired knowledge, to make a design that provides communication between the main social circles of society and to form a subject-spatial environment that meets the functional and aesthetic social needs.
Required prior and related subjects: Advertising theory and corporate identity Packaging design The main trends in modern design Multimedia design
Summary of the subject: The course provides comprehensive training of students in the specialty, by acquainting them with the basic theoretical and practical principles, principles and methods of designing graphic, spatial and multimedia systems. Practical work is done after a short lecture course, which presents the main rules of complex design. Design techniques of graphic design, subject design, environment design, and multimedia design are considered. Special and common approaches in art design with complex complex tasks are analyzed. The object of design is chosen by the student independently, after and according to the preliminary consideration, relevance, public order, the initial social and industrial-consumer situation, novelty. The state of the issue is conducted on the topic of master's research conducted in previous and related courses. The course provides extensive study and mastery in artistic design of methodological approaches and concepts that are manifested in the design of visual communications - in subject design, environmental design and multimedia design. The course reveals the formative essence of graphic and subject-spatial ensembles, as well as their dependence on the visual communicative phenomenon, which fails in different ways depending on the natural, architectural and urban context or media space. The main purpose of the classes is to understand the nature of the formation, development and formation of postmodern models of material culture and ways to apply the design tools in the artistic design of complex objects.
Assessment methods and criteria: Throughout the semester, a student can score 100 points for a visit to individual graphic workers for the results of a course project - an integrated design (classroom and self-contained work).
