Learning outcomes: As a result of studying this discipline the student will receive basic knowledge in the field of architecture and urban planning and will be able to: - Conduct historical and architectural research of historical settlements and their individual parts; - to conduct full-scale architectural research and inventory of buildings of historical settlements; - to study the current State building norms and standards for work within the historical areas of settlements, in protected areas of monuments; - implement historical and architectural reference plans of historic cities; - to carry out projects of regeneration and revitalization of the historical and architectural environment, revaluation of buildings of quarters, squares, streets of the historical city; - to defend the adopted project decisions at the meetings of advisory, scientific-methodical, town-planning councils of state and local monument-protection institutions. During the study of this discipline the student will acquire the following competencies: General: - learn, absorb the acquired knowledge in the subject area and integrate them with existing ones; - ability to search, process and analyze information from various sources, make informed decisions and solve problems; - produce new ideas, show creativity and the ability to think systematically; - ability to work independently and in a team, ability to motivate people and move towards a common goal. Professional: - basic knowledge in the field of architecture and urban planning, necessary for the development of professionally-oriented disciplines; - competence in working with monuments of architecture and urban planning and in designing objects within their protection zones; - competence in modern concepts in urban planning, understanding of the principles of architectural and urban planning, which meets the criteria of balanced development of historic cities; - knowledge of basic regulations and reference materials, current standards and specifications, instructions and other regulations in the field of architecture and urban planning; - perform architectural and town-planning documentation of architectural and town-planning objects, ability to professionally present the project - report on the essence of the project and be its opponent, make a review, explain certain provisions of the project at public hearings of various levels and town-planning councils; - ability to understand and take into account social, environmental, ethical, economic aspects that affect the formation of current and future solutions in the implementation of architectural and urban planning and restoration projects;
Required prior and related subjects: Modern concepts and innovations in architecture and urban planning. Renovation of buildings Comprehensive research and scientific principles of regeneration of historical town-planning complexes and ensembles of architectural and town-planning object. Methods of scientific research and practical methods in the restoration of architectural objects. Methodology of the research and design process of preserving the historic city. Reconstruction and restoration of architectural objects, protection of architectural monuments.
Summary of the subject: This course is designed to give students an understanding of the value of the historical and architectural environment of historic settlements, monuments of architecture and urban planning, as well as the benefits and reasons for their preservation and development. The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the methodology of scientific research of historic urban complexes (buildings, neighborhoods, market squares, historic streets), learning to formulate concepts and apply the principles of restoration design regeneration and revitalization of historical and architectural environment, revaluation of large urban formations.
Assessment methods and criteria: Assessment of students' knowledge is based on the results of current control, the work of students during practical classes, development and defense of the course project.
