Summary of the subject: Ancient civilization, without exaggeration, occupies a very important place in the history of mankind, and especially of Europeans. It was the ancient Greeks and Romans who largely conditioned the entire course of cultural and historical development of a large part of Eurasia, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. Our current European civilization owes its appearance to the ancient Greeks, because ancient peoples laid fundamental values that remain the central axis of modern culture and worldview. The history of ancient Greece and Rome studies the emergence, flourishing and fall of public and state structures that were formed on the territory of the Balkan Peninsula, in the Aegean region, Italy and the Mediterranean, on Sicily and the Black Sea. It begins at the turn of the III-II millennia BC, with the emergence of the first state formations on the island of Crete, and ends in the V century. AD, with the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The discipline is designed for students of the "Museology and monument preservation" specialty, so special attention is paid to the study of the material culture of ancient civilization, preserved monuments of art, military affairs and economy.
