Завдання: The study of an academic discipline involves the formation and development of students' competencies:
Integral competence:
INT. Ability to solve complex specialized problems and practical problems in the field of international relations, public communications and regional studies, foreign policy, international interactions between states, international organizations and non-governmentsl actors, characterized by complexity and uncertainty of conditions and the application of theories of social sciences and special scientific methods of studying the problems of international relations.
General Competences:
GC1. Ability to exercise their rights and responsibilities as a member of society, to realize the values of civil society and the need for its sustainable development, the rule of law, human rights and freedoms and the citizen of Ukraine;
GC2. Ability to preserve and multiply moral, cultural, scientific values and achievements of society based on understanding the history and patterns of development of the subject area, its place in the general system and knowledge of nature and society, and in the development of society, technology and technology, use different types and forms of motor activities for active recreation and healthy living.
GC5. Ability to work in an international context.
GC14. Ability for interpersonal interaction, respect for diversity and multiculturalism.
Professional competencies of the specialty
PC1. Ability to identify features and trends, understand the nature, dynamics, principles of organization of international relations, public communications and / or regional studies.
PC2. Ability to analyze international processes in various contexts, including political, security, legal, economic, social, cultural and informational.
PC3. Ability to assess the state and directions of research in international relations and world politics in political, economic, legal sciences, in interdisciplinary research.
PC10. Ability to analyze the structure and dynamics of international public communications, to identify their impact on the international system, state and public institutions.
PC12. Ability to carry out communication and information-analytical activities in the field of international relations (Ukrainian and foreign languages).
PC13. Ability to analyze the activities of international non-state actors and transnational relations.
PC14. Ability to analyze regional and cross-border cooperation, in particular, EU regional cooperation, as well as the development of international regional and cross-border cooperation of Ukraine.
PC15. Ability to analyze features, development trends, forms, methods and tools of state regulation of regional and cross-border cooperation.
PCO1.1. Ability to use in practice the theoretical provisions for the analysis of specific areas of international relations and trends in their development.

Learning outcomes: LO03. To know the nature of international cooperation, the nature of interaction between international actors, the ratio of governmental and non-governmental actors in world politics.
LO05. To know the nature and mechanisms of international communications.
LO13. To conduct a professional discussion on the problems of international relations, international communications, regional studies, foreign policy, argue their position, respect opponents and their views.
LO16. To understand and defend the national interests of Ukraine in international activities.
LO18. To know the job responsibilities of the diplomatic and consular staff, the rules of diplomatic protocol and etiquette used in professional communications.
LOSB1.7. To know the nature, specificity, mechanisms of implementation of the latest forms of diplomatic activity, to analyze their efficiency and effectiveness in the practice of international relations.
COM2. Ability in communication to defend the patriotic state position on the place of Ukraine in the system of international relations/
COM3. Ability to present and discuss the results obtained and transfer the acquired knowledge.
А&R2. Ability to realize the need for lifelong learning in order to deepen the acquired and acquire new professional knowledge.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites: Diplomatic and Consular Service. Conflictology and negotiation theory. International organizations.
Сo-requisites: Intercultural communication in international relations. European Union in international relations.
Summary of the subject: The discipline “Public Diplomacy” is aimed at gaining knowledge about the history of formation and development of public diplomacy, the basic concepts and ideas on which it is based, its essential characteristics, goals, as well as the ability to identify and realize the potential of its various tools; to join the work of specialized units of public authorities or international organizations in this field.
As a result of studying the discipline, the specialist must know:
- To know the nature of international cooperation, the nature of interaction between international actors, the ratio of state and none-state actors in world politics.
- To know the nature and mechanisms of international communications.
- Conduct a professional discussion on issues of international relations, international communications, regional studies, foreign policy, argue their position, respect opponents and their views.
- To know the job responsibilities of diplomatic and consular staff, the rules of diplomatic protocol and etiquette used in professional communications.
- To know the features, trends, forms, methods and tools of state regulation of regional and cross-border cooperation, international cooperation of regions.
- To know the nature, specifics, mechanisms of implementation of the latest forms of diplomatic activity, to analyze their effectiveness and efficiency in the practice of international relations.
- To know the basic theoretical approaches to understanding regionalism, the main categories, concepts, technologies and methods of studying regionalism in the field of international relations.
- To know modern ethnopolitical processes, their influence on regional and cross-border cooperation, to be able to analyze the basic tendencies of development of regional processes in modern international relations.
- To know the peculiarities of development and mechanisms of regulation of regional and cross-border cooperation of the Western Ukrainian region.
- Carry out an applied analysis of the development of regional and cross-border cooperation.
A trained specialist must be able to:
- to apply own knowledge and skills to carry out professional activities in the field of foreign policy, diplomacy and public administration;
- to apply own knowledge and skills to advise citizens on diplomatic and consular relations, various aspects of Ukraine’s cooperation with other states and international organizations;
- to provide objective professional information to representatives of central and local authorities on issues related to international, foreign policy and public communications;
- to prepare official documents for diplomatic missions and other structures, written and oral presentations of scientific and practical content.

The origin and development of the public diplomacy practice: a historical background of the United States’ Experience: еlements of public diplomacy in international relations from ancient times to World War II. Public diplomacy from the Second World War to 1991; features of public diplomacy in the modern period. Introduction of the concept of public diplomacy in modern political science: the main directions of research of public diplomacy in modern political science; the influence of concepts of Soft and Smart Powers on the study of public diplomacy; the concept of New public diplomacy and features of its implementation in practice. Subjects, institutional principles and tools of public diplomacy: states and international organizations as subjects of public diplomacy; institutional and legal principles of US public diplomacy; the role of non-governmental organizations in practicing of public diplomacy; system of tools of public diplomacy. Public diplomacy as a factor of democratization: the spread of democracy as a goal of public diplomacy; mechanisms of influence of public diplomacy on the process of democratic transformations; public diplomacy and the establishment of new political values and political culture; public diplomacy of world policy actors to influence the democratization in Ukraine. Culture in Public Diplomacy: culture as an instrument of friendly persuading; culture as a proper propaganda tool; best examples of cultural diplomacy in the world practices; diaspora and public diplomacy; entertainment and food as a guide to gastro and culture diplomacy. Realities and prospects of Ukrainian public diplomacy: origin and evolution of public diplomacy of Ukraine; institutional and procedural principles of public diplomacy of Ukraine; Ukrainian Institute as a powerful instrument of cultural influence; tasks and challenges for Ukraine public diplomacy in our days.
Assessment methods and criteria: Oral (individual and face-to-face) and written (written answers to questions, solving tasks, etc.) surveys according to the plan of practical classes, observation of educational and cognitive activities, evaluation of activity, submitted proposals, original solutions, clarifications and definitions, writing and defending essays, presentations , discussion of problematic tasks, exam.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: Formative assessment (40%): oral questioning, presentations, participation in discussions, group classes, student projects, essays.
Summative assessment (60%): examination (multiple-choice tests, short answers, extended written responses).
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
