Мета вивчення дисципліни: The aim of the course is to deepen knowlege in translating diplomatic correspondence and meetings, introduce students to the requirements towards professional translators training and their work at official events: conferences, meetings, etc.
Завдання: General competences: GC5 - the ability to operate in international environment GC6 - the ability to generate new ideas (creativity) GC7 - the ability to apply knowledge in practice GC8 - abstract thinking, analysis and synthesis GC9 - the ability to use information and communicatio technologies GC11 - the ability to communicate in a foreign language GC12 - to ability to search, process and analyze information from different sources GC14 - interpersonal interaction and respect for cultural diversity GC15 - the ability to work individually and in a team. Professional competences: - linguistic, which represents the level of knowledge of language norms and the ability to demonstrate language skills; - socio-linguistic, which presupposes the ability of a learner to produce and identify language styles according to a particular communicative situation; - pragmatic, which shows the ability to use acquired knowledge to influence an interlocutor while communicating in a foreign language.
Learning outcomes: By the end of study learners are expected to be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes: - be acquainted with current business translation strategies; - develop skills of philological analysis of translation in comparison with the original work; - be able to differentiate genres of originals and apply the resulting translation methods; - develop note-taking skills from a sheet of the original text (agreement, business letter, contract, agreement, etc.) and translation from English into Ukrainian as well as reverse translation (both orally and in writing); - activate creative abilities of translators - beginners; - get a basic level of knowledge of techniques and methods of translation during an official event using specific equipment; - use English and Ukrainian as a means of intercultural communication; - expand the general and translation worldview; - be able to analyze oral discourse and fill in the gaps in it; - master the principles of simultaneous translation and strategies for its successful implementation. - master the means and techniques of simultaneous translation in a complex multilingual communication (during a scientific conference, assembly)

Summary of the subject: The curriculum "Interpreting diplomatic meetings, conferences and forums" is destined for the students of humanities majoring in International relations, social communications and regional studies who possess B1-B2 level according to General European recommendations on teaching and learning modern languages. The course is practically oriented and enables students to acquire professional interpreter competence necessary to operate in multilingual environment. Students are suggested to integrate language knowledge and skills to perform oral translation of diplomatic meetings taking into account their peculiarities. Self-education is of great importance as well as students' individual work.
Опис: Translation as interlingual and intercultural communication. Diplomatic communication. Methodical aspect of preparation for consecutive translation. Features of translation of diplomatic correspondence. Functional system of consecutive translation. Transformational model of translation. Lexical-semantic and grammatical transformations Semantic and syntactic redundancy of oral communication. Lexical-semantic, syntactic compression and expansion Universal translation cursive. Invariance and variability of translation Pragmatic adaptation of translation.
Assessment methods and criteria: Assessment methods: - oral and direct questioning; - questioning in writing; - random oral questioning; - presentations during practical classes; - tests; - activity assessment; - evaluation of proposals, original decisions, suggestions, etc. Credit - Oral component - Written test

Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: Listening - Complete comprehension of the listening material. Students have to demonstrate the ability to comprehend and reproduce, interpret, memorise the material and perform oral and written tasks. Reading - students demonstrate the knowledge of the reading material; they are able to reproduce all the facts correctly; certain inconsistencies are allowed, however, students should demonstrate critical thinking, the ability to analyze and lay out the material consecutively. Students understand and can explain most of the words in a text, can translate and use them participating in a discussion. Speaking - students are able to express themselves on a given topic using lexical and grammar constructions, speak fluently and support their point of view by the help of language means and participate in discussions. Writing - students possess an appropriate level of knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. A written paper should be concise, coherent, logical (an essay, a letter, a summary, etc.)
