Мета вивчення дисципліни: The purpose of studying the discipline is the formation of the necessary competencies in students, their acquisition of knowledge and skills in the study of the main means of relay protection and automation, which are used in the management of electric power systems, the principles of their implementation, the calculation of operating parameters, the acquisition of practical skills in testing and checking individual protection devices and automation, features of their operation, sufficient for successful performance of relevant professional duties.
Завдання: general competences: • ability to abstract thinking, analysis and synthesis (GC1); • the ability to apply knowledge in practical situations (GC2); • ability to search, process and analyze information from various sources (GC5); • the ability to identify, pose and solve problems (GC6); • ability to work in a team (GC7); • ability to work autonomously (GC8). professional competences: • the ability to solve practical problems using automated design and calculation systems (PC1); • the ability to solve practical problems involving the methods of mathematics, physics and electrical engineering (PC2); • the ability to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems related to the operation of electrical systems and networks, the electrical part of stations and substations, and high-voltage equipment (PC3); • the ability to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems related to problems of metrology, electrical measurements, operation of automatic control devices, relay protection and automation (PC4); • the ability to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems related to the problems of production, transmission and distribution of electric energy (PC6); • the ability to perform professional duties in compliance with the requirements of the rules of safety, labor protection, industrial sanitation and environmental protection (PC8); • awareness of the need to constantly expand one's own knowledge about new technologies in electric power, electrical engineering and electromechanics (PC10); • the ability to identify, classify and describe the operation of power stations, electrical systems and networks, power supply systems by using analytical methods and modeling methods (PCS1); • the ability to argue the choice of methods for solving specialized problems, critically evaluate the obtained results and defend the decisions made (PCS3).
Learning outcomes: • knowledge of purpose, function and properties of relay protection and automation; • knowledge of methods of building automation and protection devices, the basic principles of their implementation; • knowledge of practical test methods and testing individual protection devices and automation; • ability to choose the relay protection and automation for individual elements of the electric power system; • ability to calculate the parameters of operation of simple elements of power system protection; • ability to check the serviceability relay equipment.

Summary of the subject: General information about the main means of relay protection and automation, which are used in the management of electric power systems, the principles of their implementation, the calculation of operating parameters, the methods of testing and checking individual protection and automation devices, and the peculiarities of their operation are presented.
Опис: Purpose and principles of implementation of relay protection. Purpose and main characteristics of the relay. Protection using fuses. Protection using automatic circuit breakers. Current transformer. Voltage transformer. Auxiliary powered. Line overcurrent protection. Main provisions of the differential and distance protection of lines. Transformer overcurrent protection. Motor protection. Main types of power system automation.
Assessment methods and criteria: Defense of reports on laboratory work, assessment of work in practical classes, calculation and graphic works (control works), exam.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: • written reports on laboratory and computational works, oral questioning (30%) • final control - exam: written and oral form (70%)
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
