Learning outcomes: As a result of the study a student should know: - principles of the formation, transfer and reception of information; - principles of radio communication systems construction and information transfer; - types of signals and their use to transfer messages in communication channels; - properties of microwave propagation, tropospheric and satellite routes; - methods to fight the interference and fading signals on routes of transmission; - principles and methods of microwave, satellite and tropospheric transmission systems construction; - modern digital wireless communication and transmission of information technologies. Should be able to: - design channels of transmission of analog and digital communications in conditions of interference and different propagation characteristics; - conduct calculations of basic parameters and characteristics of nodes and radio systems as a whole; - conduct experimental studies of individual units and processes of radio messaging; - set up a system of information transfer to ensure optimum quality.
Required prior and related subjects: - linear algebra and functions of a complex calculus from mathematics; - electromagnetic waves from physics; - field theory, electrodynamics and propagation; - theory of circuits and signals.
Summary of the subject: Information and communication as components of the society infrastructure and its economic development. Principles of communication and information transfer systems development and their classification. Messages and signals in radio transmission systems, their main characteristics. Types of signals modulations. Communication systems channels, their parameters. Features of propagation on radio-relay routes near the Earth, the troposphere and satellite routes. Antenna feeder devices and radio communication systems, their parameters and characteristics. Types of antennas for data transmission systems for various purposes. Interference and distortion of signals in analog and digital information transmission systems. Methods of protection and protection from fading signals. Radio relay system of information transmission with frequency, time and combined methods of channels separation, their block diagrams. Tropospheric and ionospheric data transmission system. Principles of satellite communications systems. Orbits and zone visibility, signaling features. Energy calculation of satellite links. Principles of satellite data transmission systems with multiple access. Standards of multistation access DAMA, FDMA, TDMA, CDMA, GSM. Modern wireless communication systems and communication technologies of local use of Wi-Fi based on 802.11 standard, DECT system, zonal use of WIMAX based on 802.16 standards, TETRA tranking communications systems and others. Evolution of wireless technologies for 3G and 4G systems.
Assessment methods and criteria: - current control: written reports on laboratory works, oral examination; - final control (exam).

Learning outcomes: As a result of study of the module students must: - to calculate and construct profiles of intervals of radio relay communication lines taking into account atmospheric refraction; - calculate the reserve for fading the signal taking into account meteorological factors; - to make a choice of type of equipment, which will provide the specified indicators of quality of the relay line.

Summary of the subject: - substantiation of the choice of antenna mounting heights at the interval of the radio relay line and taking into account atmospheric refraction; - calculation of the reserve for the fading signal; - calculation of indices of equipment's unreadiness due to quality and errors; - justification of the final choice of equipment type
