In modern engineering, one of the effective methods of ensuring product quality and improving the operational reliability of engineering products are functionally oriented technologies (FOT) [1,2], which are a class of technologies with the ability to adapt products to operating conditions with minimal time and material resources [1,2]. One of the main differences between FOT and traditional technologies is a meticulous study of the operating conditions of machine parts, which at the stage of technology implementation will allow to realize their full potential. And, first of all, FOT are calculated on the details working in difficult operating conditions which are exposed at the same time to different types of loading [1,2]. In recent decades, a new area of research in mechanical engineering and machining - Continuum Damage Mechanics (mechanics of the damaged environment). Within the framework of this method, thorough studies of the physical processes of damage to the surface layer of products and their destruction during their operation. To describe the deformation relief, a new damage parameter is proposed - the ratio of the damaged surface area to the total area of the controlled surface - which is described by the known equations Continuum Damage Mechanics. Study object – functionally-oriented technological process of manufacturing machine-building products. Scope of research – technological damage of surfaces of cast preparations after transitions of technological routes of their processing. Goar of research: study of the influence of technological damage of product material on the formation of a rational structure of operations of functionally-oriented technological processes to ensure the operational properties of a certain functional surface of the product in compliance with the requirements for the formation of its parameters of accuracy and surface layer quality. This paper analyzes the current state of research on the damage of machine-building products, development of research methods, analysis of existing criteria for damage and destruction of machine parts with a mathematical description of the process of technological damage, analysis of modern methods of experimental studies of material degradation in the manufacture of machine-made products. project-oriented and functionally-oriented technologies taking into account the criterion of technological damage, application of the criterion of technological damage of products in machine-building practice.
