Extended abstract Solving environmental problems related to improving the quality of drinking water, pollution of the environment with wastewater and sludge, requires the improvement of methods, facilities and technologies for their treatment. This will significantly improve the quality of treated drinking water without significant modernization of existing water utilities. One way to intensify existing natural and water treatment technologies is to use high molecular weight organic flocculants. In addition, the use of organic flocculants is particularly justified in the following cases: when there is no possibility to expand treatment plants due to limited space; due to the stringency of water quality requirements; if necessary, quickly get the desired result, because the use of flocculants makes it possible without capital expenditures or with low costs to increase the cleaning efficiency by 30 - 40%; in the absence of alternative methods of water purification. Because the doses of flocculants and their costs depend on the quality of the source water obtained from the reservoir, which varies with the season, weather, water temperature and are selected by trial coagulation, there is a great need for continuous automatic cooking of magnaflok, which can be easily achieved by application of programmable logic controllers Siemens S7-1200. The first section of the explanatory note discusses various types of flocculants [1], in particular magnafloc, and the principle of their use for drinking water treatment. Particular attention is paid to the benefits of purification when using flocculants magnaflok [2, 3]. Study object ? the processes of drinking water purification with the help of flocculants on the water supply system. Scope of research ? automation of the system for the preparation of magnaflok in two tanks. Goal of research: to develop an automated system for the implementation of a given algorithm for preparation magnaflok based on two tanks for drinking water purification using a programmable logic controller Siemens S7-1200 and display. The second section considers the whole technological process of drinking water treatment at the water supply system. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of industrial systems for the preparation of solutions of flocculants and their main elements - mixers. In the third section the detailed step-by-step algorithm of work of industrial system for preparation of solutions of flocculants is considered. The fourth section discusses the use of controllers Siemens S7-1200 [4] for automation of flocculants solutions. Particular attention is paid to the technical characteristics and capabilities of such programmable logic controllers and Totally Integrated Automation software from Siemens. The fifth section discusses the practical automation of the system for the preparation of solutions of magnaflok using the Siemens S7-1200 controller and the display, the algorithm of which was discussed in the third section. Thus, an automated system for the implementation of the algorithm for preparation magnaflok based on two tanks for drinking water purification using a programmable logic controller Siemens S7-1200, digital-to-analog converter, display and specially designed for the whole complex program in the software environment Tia Portal. The developed program implements the algorithm of magnafloc preparation and allows to identify and signal emergency modes.
