Abstract: Mayer T.M., Odnorih Z.S. (supervisor). Implementation of environmental control of water resources (surface water bodies) of the SEI in the Lviv region. Master’s thesis - Lviv Polytechnic National University, Lviv, 2024. EXTENDED ABSTRACT The master’s thesis is devoted to solving a scientific and practical task - studying the quality of the Vereshchytsia River and developing recommendations for improving the ecological condition of the reservoir. Environmental control of the state of the environment is carried out in many forms, including environmental inspection. The methods of environmental control used by the state regulatory authorities include scheduled and unscheduled inspections, requesting documents, explanations, etc. The object of the study is the Vereshchytsia River within the Horodok district. The subject of the study is the level of pollution in the control outlet No. 1 of the Velykolyubinsky distillery. The purpose of the study is to identify anthropogenic sources of pollution of the Vereshchytsia River by excessive discharges of untreated wastewater and to develop recommendations for improving its ecological condition. The article presents a classification of public administration bodies in the field of water use and protection and water resources reproduction, responsibilities for the formation of water policy and its implementation. It is proved that in the Lviv region during 2021-2023, the volume of water consumption for all types of needs increased, but this trend is also observed for wastewater discharge. This helps to determine the socio-economic importance of water-dependent sectors of the economy in terms of water quality, high water intensity of the process, significant anthropogenic pressure on the ecosystem, and small volume of wastewater disposal. The master’s thesis presents various classifications, in particular, the classification of observation points and observation programmes for surface water bodies of Ukraine, the peculiarities of their zoning in different historical periods, and the ecological system of classifications for assessing the state of surface water quality. The results of the analysis contribute to a fuller understanding of the environmental problems of the Vereshchytsia River, which was chosen as the object of research. The Department of State Ecological Supervision (Control) of Water Resources of the SEI in Lviv Oblast conducted an unscheduled inspection in the control structure (in the outlet No. 1) of the Vereshchytsia River. Samples were taken and analysed for pollutants. The results showed that the following pollutants exceeded the standard content of pollutants: suspended solids by 10 times, ammonium nitrogen by 7-9 times, phosphates by 4 times, BOD5 by 21 times, COD by 19-32 times, total iron by twice, and POPs by 4-6 times. It can be concluded that such excessive levels of pollutants can put significant pressure on the ecological status of the Vereshchytsia River and its fish fauna. The amount of compensation for damages resulting from the excessive discharge of pollutants into the Vereshchytsia River was calculated. The total amount of damages to be compensated is UAH 4168.32. The section ‘Economics and enterprise management’ is developed. Keywords: Vereshchytsia River, control gate, pollutants, excessive discharge, environmental inspection.
