Abstract: The master’s thesis provides a psychological analysis of the relationship between coping strategies and self-esteem in youth. A theoretical literature review revealed that coping strategies contribute to stress adaptation, mental health preservation, and the development of self-regulation, with their choice depending on the level of self-esteem. Self-esteem, as a key element of the self-concept, determines the emotional well-being of young people but remains unstable during youth due to identity exploration and the need for social approval. The empirical study involved a sample of 102 individuals aged 18 to 23, including 79 girls and 23 boys. It was found that self-esteem significantly influences the choice of coping strategies: individuals with high self-esteem are more likely to use assertive actions and social diversion, while low self-esteem correlates with emotionally oriented strategies. The results confirmed that adaptive coping strategies (assertiveness, social diversion) are associated with high self-esteem, whereas maladaptive strategies (avoidance, emotionally oriented strategies) correlate with low self-esteem. Recommendations were developed for practical psychologists to support youth self-esteem through the formation of effective coping strategies. Keywords: coping strategies, self-esteem, youth, adaptation, mental health.
