Abstract: Emotional stability is a complex feature of the psyche, characterized by the ability to regulate the manifestations of one’s emotionality for the effective performance of activities. This property also helps to reduce the negative impact of adverse factors, reduces stress reactions and enables further constructive activity. Adaptive potential determines the ability of an individual to transform at the emotional, cognitive and behavioral levels in order to ensure comfortable relationships with the social environment. In order to test and confirm the working hypothesis, 68 people aged 18 to 40 years and of different sexes were studied. High levels of mental states such as anxiety, rigidity, and frustration correlated with high levels of maladaptation and low levels of emotional resilience. Men and women who participated in the study differed at a statistically significant level in the indicators of emotional intelligence and its components such as empathy, recognition of the emotions of others, self-motivation, and emotional awareness. There were no statistically significant differences in the measures of the manifestation of indicators of adaptation, maladaptive states, and characteristics of emotionality. As a result of multifactor analysis, the following factors were identified: “Emotional intelligence”, “Madadaptive states”, “Harmony with oneself and the world”, “Inflexible dominance”, “Insecurity in oneself”, “Adaptive potential of emotional intensity”, “Aggressiveness in the structure of emotional resilience”. Keywords: Emotional stability, adaptive potential, emotional intelligence, maladaptive states, emotionality.
