Ensuring the reliability of the motor vehicle windshield wipers by optimizing the loading regimes of their operation

Abstract: The work considers the structure and principle of operation of automobile windshield wipers. The purpose and principle of operation of automobile windshield wipers are given. The features of their design, application, layout and operation are considered. The influence of windshield wipers on the safety of automobile operation is given. The modes of operation of the windshield wiper system are described, the influence of the design on the operating conditions of automobiles is given. Measures to improve the quality of cleaning during automobile operation are given. The electromechanical drive of windshield wipers is considered as a classic mechatronic system of the automobile. The load modes of operation of automobile windshield wipers are studied. The search for source data for theoretical research is carried out. Using the method of velocity and acceleration plans, the kinematic and dynamic parameters of the windshield wiper drive mechanism are calculated. The speeds and accelerations of the main points of the windshield wiper drive mechanism are calculated for three positions of the mechanism: initial, average and the position of the mechanism at the end point of movement. The speeds of the electric motor of the mechanism drive were studied at 40 rpm and 80 rpm, which correspond to the first and second speeds of the wipers. Also, at a speed of 40 rpm, an intermittent mode operates, when the mechanism makes one revolution with a pause of several seconds. Studies have confirmed that when the mechanism operates at a frequency of 40 rpm, the speeds of all points of the mechanism will be half as low as for a speed of 80 rpm, and the acceleration and forces are reduced by 4 times. Analysis of the calculations shows that the greatest accelerations and forces on the wiper blades will act at the beginning of the movement and in the final phase of the movement. In intermediate positions, half as much force will act on the brush. The brush pressing force of 20 N allows for a satisfactory load distribution along the entire length of the brush. When the car is driving at high speeds, the downforce from air resistance is added to the downforce, which in the event of heavy rain will improve the removal of precipitation from the windshield.
