Abstract: The object of the study is armored vehicle structures, in particular their protective properties, which are provided by various structural materials. The results of the analysis of armed conflicts of the last decades show that a significant part of combat damage to weapons and military equipment (WME) and the death of their crews is caused by damage by mines and improvised explosive devices [1,2]. Therefore, it is relevant to solve the problem of determining the effectiveness of protective structures under explosive loading to improve the mine resistance of MMW samples. The subject of the study is the effectiveness of various structural materials used in armor protection, their mechanical, physical, chemical properties, as well as the ability to resist external influences characteristic of combat conditions. The purpose of the work is to conduct a comparative analysis of modern structural materials to determine the optimal option that provides the highest effectiveness of vehicle armor protection, taking into account mass, manufacturability, cost and operational characteristics. Research objectives 1. Determine the main criteria for assessing the effectiveness of materials for armor protection. 2. Investigate the properties of various materials. Carry out a comparative analysis of materials by stability parameters. 3. Develop recommendations for the selection of materials to increase the effectiveness of armor protection. The work uses experimental, analytical and theoretical research methods. In particular: • testing structural samples for bullet resistance; • comparison of data with international standards for armor protection. The novelty of the work lies in the systematization of data on modern structural materials and the adaptation of the latest technologies to the operating conditions of an armored car. In the process of work, it was determined that the use of Hardox 600 steel provides the greatest protection efficiency. The introduction of the recommended materials allows increasing protection against modern types of weapons. The work consists of three sections, which consider the theoretical foundations, experimental data, analysis of results, recommendations and conclusions. The results of the study can be used in the process of modernization of armored vehicles, development of new military vehicles, as well as in related industries, such as civil armor protection and aviation.
