Завдання: General Competencies: Acquisition, deepening, and improvement of declarative knowledge, skills, and competencies for existence and the ability to learn; development of self-assessment skills and the capacity for independent learning, enabling students to continue their education in academic and professional environments both during their studies at higher education institutions and after obtaining a higher education degree.
Professional Competencies: Acquiring professionally oriented communicative language competencies (linguistic, sociolinguistic, and pragmatic) that ensure effective communication in familiar academic and professional environments.
Learning outcomes: Learning outcomes:
By the end of the study learners are expected to be able to:
• use different language skills: speaking, reading, listening and writing according to the future profession;
• maintain a conversation on familiar study and specialism-related topics, expressing and exchanging opinions and factual information on study and job - related events;
• read original literature in the specialty to obtain scientific and technical information;
• demonstrate understanding of clear and simple notices, including details on warning, announcements and instructions in academic and job-related events;
• make arrangements on the telephone in academic or professional environment, including getting connected, leaving and taking messages, provided the interlocutor’s speech is clearly articulated in a generally familiar accent;
• write e-mails for educational purposes conveying simple straightforward information of immediate relevance /close to academic environment and everyday life;
• fill in correctly application and registration forms for accommodation and / or for a conference with an appropriate degree of accuracy and adequacy
LR1 accomodate to new circumstances, make independent decisions and initiate original research-innovative complex projects
LR2 realize the necessity of lifelong learning with the purpose of acquiring new professional knowledge and skills.

Summary of the subject: Annotation of the Educational Discipline:
The syllabus for the course "English for Specific Purposes" is designed for students pursuing a second-level higher education degree (Master’s program) in all fields of study who possess a B2 level of proficiency in a foreign language, according to the educational-scientific program and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Upon successful completion of the course, students are expected to achieve a B2+ level, which is a transitional stage between intermediate and advanced proficiency levels.
The course is practice-oriented, allowing students to acquire professional communicative competence. It is delivered through the integration of language skills and knowledge within general and specific contexts that may arise in academic and professional environments. Special attention is given to independent work by students.
Опис: Description of the Educational Discipline (Topic Titles, Brief Content):
1. My Specialty: Overview of the main areas of the specialty, defining its significance in the modern professional context. Description of key concepts and terms used in the field. This helps students focus on important aspects and gain initial knowledge about the specifics of the specialty.
2. Working with Additional Technical Literature: Study of methods for working with technical literature: searching, analyzing, and using sources. Consideration of methods for quickly and effectively finding literature for scientific research. Preparation for working with academic databases.
3. Features of the Style of Scientific and Technical Literature: Description of the specifics of the scientific-technical style, its characteristics, and requirements. Teaching students to work with technical texts, particularly in aspects of structural organization and language formatting. The importance of accuracy, clarity, and conciseness in scientific papers.
4. Terms, Abbreviations, and Their Use in Technical Texts: Consideration of terminology used in technical and scientific texts, as well as the rules for using professional abbreviations. Development of skills to correctly apply terms and abbreviations in the context of specific professional texts.
5. Preparation of Scientific Texts and Document Formatting: Teaching students to create scientific texts, from writing articles to preparing conference abstracts. Consideration of document formatting rules according to international standards and academic publication requirements.
6. Presentation of Research Results: Mastery of skills for effectively presenting research results, including working with visual materials (diagrams, graphs, tables). Preparation for public speaking and defending scientific projects, using scientific English in the context of public lectures and conferences.
7. Working with Scientific Articles and Publications: Analysis of scientific articles, understanding their structure, and skills for creating one’s own publications. Students learn the process of preparing articles for international scientific journals and conferences.
8. Ethics of Scientific Activity: Familiarization with the ethical aspects of scientific work: plagiarism, correct citation, responsibility for the accuracy of information. Discussion of the importance of adhering to ethical norms when writing scientific papers and publications.
Assessment methods and criteria: Description of Methods for Assessing the Achievement of Learning Outcomes:
Current monitoring and differentiated pass/fail assessment.
Methods for Assessing Knowledge:

- Written questioning;
- Selective oral questioning;
- Presentations during practical sessions;
- Tests;
- Evaluation of student participation;
- Assessment of proposed ideas, original solutions, clarifications, and definitions, etc.

Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: Criteria for Assessment during Practical Sessions:
• Listening — Full understanding of audio materials; the student demonstrates independence, the ability to adequately perceive information, reproduce, translate, and memorize the material, as well as perform accompanying oral or written tasks.
• Reading — The student demonstrates knowledge of a significant portion of the read material; facts are correctly used, with terminological accuracy, and minor inaccuracies may occur. The student shows understanding of the text, independence, and critical thinking, with the ability to analyze, argue their position, and logically and coherently present the material. The student understands and can explain the meaning of most words in the text in the foreign language, knows their translation, and uses an active vocabulary during discussions of the material.
• Speaking — The student demonstrates the ability to express themselves on a chosen topic, using appropriate lexical and grammatical structures, communicating fluently, arguing their point of view, and participating in thematic discussions.
• Writing — The student has a sufficient level of grammar knowledge and vocabulary to correctly express their thoughts in writing. Key aspects include logical structure, conciseness, and correctness according to the requirements for the specific type of written work (essay, letter, extended abstract, etc.).
Criteria for Assessing Oral Presentation:
The presentation is prepared according to the chosen topic and the independently developed plan, adhering to the technical formatting requirements. It demonstrates in-depth and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the material, presenting clear and exhaustive information with an analytical approach, supplemented with factual and conceptual material related to the chosen topic.
The report is complete, comprehensive, covering the questions in the plan, clear, logical, well-argued, with a coherent presentation of the content and the student's own perspective on solving the problem.

Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
