Professional competences:
- linguistic, which represents the level of knowledge of language norms and the ability to demonstrate language skills;
- socio-linguistic, which presupposes the ability of a learner to produce and identify language styles according to a particular communicative situation;
- pragmatic, which shows the ability to use acquired knowledge to influence an interlocutor while communicating in a foreign language.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the study learners are expected to know: peculiarities of translating texts of various genres; methods and ways of translating idiomatic and stable phrases; methods and ways of translating realia of social and political spheres; peculiarities of translating polysemantic language units; peculiarities of translating texts of the publicist style; peculiarities of translating passive constructions; peculiarities of translating gerundial constructions; peculiarities of translating infinitival constructions; peculiarities of translating participles and their constructions; peculiarities of translating multi-component asyndetic noun clusters; methods and ways of translating internationalisms; methods and ways of translating proper names; methods and ways of translating non-equivalent modal verbs into the Ukrainian language.

Corequisites: Foreign Language, part 6
Summary of the subject: The aim of the discipline is to deepen students’ knowledge on Theory and Practice of Translation. The course covers the following topics: translation of the Infinitive and I nfinitival Complexes, translation of the Participle and Participial Constructions, translation of the Gerund and Gerundial Constructions, peculiartities of the Passive Voice constructions, translation transformations, translation of polysemantic language units, peculiarities of the publicistic style.
Опис: Mastering the discipline presupposes accumulation and actualization of knowledge and skills on Translation Studies, expanding knowledge of terminology and intense activation of lexical and grammar units accumulated at previous stages of the studying process.
Assessment methods and criteria: Current control: 50% - oral examination of theoretical knowledge and accomplishment of necessary tasks on translation.
Modular control: 50% - modular test.
Final control: 100% - credit.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: Аssessment methods:
- oral and direct questioning;
- questioning in writing;
- random oral questioning;
- presentations during practical classes;
- tests;
- individual oral and written task assessment
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: Listening - Complete comprehension of the listening material. Students have to demonstrate the ability to comprehend and reproduce, interpret, memorise the material and perform oral and written tasks.
Reading - students demonstrate the knowledge of the reading material; they are able to reproduce all the facts correctly; certain inconsistencies are allowed, however, students should demonstrate critical thinking, the ability to analyze and lay out the material consecutively. Students understand and can explain most of the words in a text, can translate and use them participating in a discussion.
Speaking - students are able to express themselves on a given topic using lexical and grammar constructions, speak fluently and support their point of view by the help of language means and participate in discussions.
Writing - students possess an appropriate level of knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. A written paper should be concise, coherent, logical (an essay, a letter, a summary, etc.)
