Professional competences:
- linguistic, which represents the level of knowledge of language norms and the ability to demonstrate language skills;
- socio-linguistic, which presupposes the ability of a learner to produce and identify language styles according to a particular communicative situation;
- pragmatic, which shows the ability to use acquired knowledge to influence an interlocutor while communicating in a foreign language.
Learning outcomes: The course is aimed at expanding knowledge in translation studies; acquiring skills of the basic means and strategies for oral and written translation; getting students acquainted with lexical, grammar and stylistic means of communication together with functional language to formulate skills and habits in translation and interpretation taking into account all possible peculiarities of an authentic English text and applying necessary tools of expressive language.
At the end of the course students are supposed to accumulate and apply knowledge, skills and habits in translation and interpretation, expand professional vocab, and activate lexis.
As a result, a student should:
Know the basic principles, methods, means and tools od written and oral translation;ways to analyse lexical, stylistic and grammar transformations while dealing with professional texts and fiction;grammar structures necessary to understand and translate academic and professional sources.
Be able to apply the basic techniques for written and oral translation effectively; translate authentic oral and written texts into a source and a target language taking into account all stylistic, lexical and grammar peculiarities.
Required prior and related subjects: English, speaking practice, functional grammar, «Translation studies» (Part 1,2,3,4).

Assessment methods and criteria: Аssessment methods:
- oral and direct questioning;
- questioning in writing;
- random oral questioning;
- activity assessment;
- evaluation of proposals, original decisions, suggestions, etc.

- Oral component (translation practice)
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: Total - 100 (Individual tasks, practical translations).
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: Listening - Complete comprehension of the listening material. Students have to demonstrate the ability to comprehend and reproduce, interpret, memorise the material and perform oral and written translation.
Reading - students demonstrate the knowledge of the reading material; they are able to reproduce all the facts correctly; certain inconsistencies are allowed, however, students should demonstrate critical thinking, the ability to analyze and lay out the material consecutively. Students understand and can explain most of the words in a text, can translate and use them participating in a discussion.
Speaking - students are able to express themselves on a given topic using lexical and grammar constructions, speak fluently and support their point of view by the help of language means and use them appropriately in interpretation.
Writing - students possess an appropriate level of knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. A written translation should be concise, coherent, logical.
