Analytical Chemistry

Major: Technologies of Orthopedic And Rehabilitation Products For Medical Purposes
Code of subject: 6.163.04.O.009
Credits: 5.00
Department: Physical, Analytical and General Chemistry
Lecturer: DSc., prof. Pavlo SHAPOVAL
Semester: 2 семестр
Mode of study: денна
Мета вивчення дисципліни: to provide students with theoretical knowledge of analytical chemistry and instrumental methods of analysis and to familiarise them with methods of qualitative and quantitative determination of the composition of substances.
Завдання: general: - the ability to solve complex specialised problems and practical problems in biomedical engineering or in the process of study that involves applying certain chemical, biological and medical engineering theories and methods that are characterised by complexity and uncertainty. professional: - the ability to apply knowledge in practical situations; - ability to conduct research at the appropriate level
Learning outcomes: As a result of studying the discipline, the student should be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes: Know: - basic principles of analytical chemistry as a science of qualitative and quantitative composition of substances; - conditions for analytical determinations; - algorithms for creating new methods of analytical control of substances. Be able to - reproduce analytical methods from the description; - evaluate the metrological characteristics of the analysis results; - use laboratory equipment and instruments for to determine the content of substances.
Required prior and related subjects: Previous academic disciplines: - Fundamentals of chemistry and physicochemistry of polymers - Organic chemistry - Physics Related and subsequent subjects: - Methods of physicochemical and biomedical research - Technical analysis and control of biomedical products production - Methods of chemical analysis
Summary of the subject: Analytical chemistry provides information on the qualitative and quantitative composition of substances by using chemical (titrimetric and gravimetric) and physicochemical (optical, electrochemical, chromatographic) methods of analysis. This makes it possible to carry out technological processes in food and other industries based on data on the content of certain substances in raw materials, finished products, the environment, water, etc. The discipline is studied through a combination of theoretical courses and laboratory classes on specific methods and objects of analysis.
Опис: 1) Subject, tasks, basic concepts and classification of analytical chemistry methods. 2) Physical and chemical methods of analysis. Emission spectral analysis. 3) Molecular absorption analysis. 4) Chromatographic methods of analysis. 5) Electrochemical methods of analysis. 6) Conductance and coulometry. 7) Voltammetry.
Assessment methods and criteria: Form of semester control - differentiated credit; forms of current forms of current control: written and oral control, colloquia, defence of control works, defence of laboratory works, test control.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: Points and grades are assigned by the Regulations on the organisation and conduct of current and semester control of student learning outcomes developed by the Law of Ukraine ‘On Higher Education’, the Statute of Lviv Polytechnic National University, the Regulations on the organisation of the educational on the organisation of the educational process at Lviv Polytechnic National University and other applicable legislative and regulatory documents on the organisation of the educational process.
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100-88 points - certified with an “excellent” grade - High level: the student demonstrates an in-depth mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the discipline, systematic knowledge, skills and abilities of their practical application. The mastered knowledge, skills and abilities provide the ability to independently formulate goals and organize learning activities, search and find solutions in non-standard, atypical educational and professional situations. The applicant demonstrates the ability to make generalizations based on critical analysis of factual material, ideas, theories and concepts, to formulate conclusions based on them. His/her activity is based on interest and motivation for self-development, continuous professional development, independent research activities, implemented with the support and guidance of the teacher. 87-71 points - certified with a grade of “good” - Sufficient level: involves mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the discipline at an advanced level, conscious use of knowledge, skills and abilities to reveal the essence of the issue. Possession of a partially structured set of knowledge provides the ability to apply it in familiar educational and professional situations. Aware of the specifics of tasks and learning situations, the student demonstrates the ability to search for and choose their solution according to the given sample, to argue for the use of a particular method of solving the problem. Their activities are based on interest and motivation for self-development and continuous professional development. 70-50 points - certified with a grade of “satisfactory” - Satisfactory level: outlines the mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the discipline at the average level, partial awareness of educational and professional tasks, problems and situations, knowledge of ways to solve typical problems and tasks. The applicant demonstrates an average level of skills and abilities to apply knowledge in practice, and solving problems requires assistance, support from a model. The basis of learning activities is situational and heuristic, dominated by motives of duty, unconscious use of opportunities for self-development. 49-00 points - certified with a grade of “unsatisfactory” - Unsatisfactory level: indicates an elementary mastery of the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the discipline, a general understanding of the content of the educational material, partial use of knowledge, skills and abilities. The basis of learning activities is situational and pragmatic interest.
