Characteristics of the educational program: Educational and professional training program is based on the known positions and results of modern scientific research in geophysics, geology, geodesy, cartography, geodynamics, meteorology and climatology and oriented to the future professional and scientific carrier. Program objective is to provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills, sufficient to successfully perform their professional duties specialty 103 "Earth Sciences" with specialization "Geotechnical engineering" and prepare students for future employment in the chosen specialty. Provide the knowledge for the professional activities with the possible continuation of the study to get higher level of the qualification skill. Modern laboratories will be used for the proper formation of the educational process at the departments of the Institute of Geodesy. An obligatory research practice should be done in the frame of master’s degree qualification project, according to the specialization, and all students should complete both: practical and theoretical research. The total amount of educational and professional program - 90 ECTS credits, including general training cycle.: - 6 cr., cycle of professional training - 84 cr.
Gained competence: - demonstration of the deep knowledge to proceed the experiments, data collection, modelling and analysis of the results of computations, systemic thinking and creative ideas in the area of Earth Sciences; - ability to demonstrate knowledge in professionally oriented disciplines of specialty; - demonstrate the knowledge of the current stage and modern technologies in the area of natural sciences of Earth; - knowledge of basic concepts in geotechnical engineering;
- ability to use in practice skills for organization of investigation and design works in the field of geotechnical engineering; - ability to study and modelling processes and phenomenons occurrs inside the Eart and on its surface for mathematical interpretation relations in models and processes, to determine limits of used models and assumptions; - ability to use geotechnical geological and geophysical methods of investigation to determine geological environmental conditions and mechanical properties of soils and rocks; - ability to carry out geodetic and eco-technological monitoring aimed at risk evaluation related to natural slope stability and stability of slopes on technogenic mineral deposits; - ability to apply knowledge in Earth sciences to carry out geotechnical control of the construction of buildings, various types of engineering structures and adjacent territories; - knowledge of the basic legal acts in the field of Earth sciences; - the ability to use computer technologies to solve problems of geotechnical engineering (geological mapping, determination of soil volumes, calculation of loads on foundations, etc.). - the ability to use and apply basic decision-making skills in the field of technic and technology - knowledge of methods used for monitoring geodynamic processes and phenomena for complex physical and mathematical modeling of the interaction of buildings and structures with the geological environment, conducting research and providing expert opinions;
- apply the acquired knowledge and understanding to identify, formulate, and solve the appropriated professional problems; - systems thinking and apply creative abilities to the formation of fundamentally new ideas; - clearly communicate and explicitly explain own conclusions to the experts, not experts and other persons; - be focused and persistent, lifelong study, to realize social and moral responsibility for the study and professional activities.

Work placement(s): An important aspect of training in the Earth Sciences is Research practice on the topic of master’s qualification work, which is held on construction companies and engineering companies, departmental offices of engineering profile.
