Learning outcomes: Students should know the basic principles of mapping in geology, hydrogeology and engineering geology; demonstrate knowledge of the principles of collecting, processing and presenting the results of thematic mapping; demonstrate the use of the requirements of current regulations of state and departmental documents governing the construction of thematic cartographic materials; processing of data collected during field work. Ability to demonstrate the ability to build 2D and 3D models in the Earth sciences.

Summary of the subject: History of cartography. Thematic cartography. Geological cartography. Mapping in hydrogeology and engineering geology. Digital mapping. History of geological mapping in Ukraine. Types of computer software used in thematic mapping and modeling. Move program and its use in geological research. Use of laser scanning and photogrammetry in mapping in Earth sciences and modeling. Types of models used in the study of space-time natural processes. 3D and 4D models. Direct and inverse modeling.
Assessment methods and criteria: • reports on exercises, oral examination, test work (40%); • final control (60% verification event, test): written, oral form (60%).
