Learning outcomes: • know the theory surge in electrical networks, ways and means of protection against them; • understand the basic principles of coordination of insulation electrical substations and electrical lines networks operating on them surge; • be able to predict the level of surge and their statistical characteristics; • be able to coordinate the level of isolation from the surge in electric networks; • the ability to choose the required electrical protection of substations and lines of electrical networks and lightning.

Summary of the subject: Levels electrical insulation. Modes neutral electrical networks and power transformers. Internal overvoltage and their statistical characteristics. The amplitudes over. Restrictions over during routine and emergency commutations. Resonant Overvoltage of statistical distribution and limitations. Protection against internal surge of electric power lines and substations of 6-35 kV. Storm surge and their characteristics. Cover with dry insulation of power lines with garlands by the action of switching over. Methods feasibility study insulation levels. Overvoltage nonlinear properties and selection.
Assessment methods and criteria: • written reports on laboratory, course work, oral questioning (30%) • final control - exam: written and oral form (70%)
