Мета вивчення дисципліни: The purpose of the study of the course "Project Management in Tourism" is to familiarize students with the essence, principles, and technology of project management in tourism, to form a set of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in implementing the core functions of project management, and to acquire the necessary competencies to manage tourism projects effectively.
Завдання: 1. The study of this course aims to develop and enhance the following competencies in students: Integral Competence (IC): IC. The ability to solve complex professional tasks and practical problems in tourism and recreation both during studies and work, which involves applying theories and methods from the system of sciences that shape tourism studies, characterized by complexity and uncertainty of conditions. General Competences (GC): GC4. The ability to develop and manage projects. GC5. The ability to evaluate and ensure the quality of performed tasks. Special (Professional) Competences (SC): SC5. The ability to use tools for collecting, processing, analyzing, and managing tourism information. SC6. The ability to analyze, forecast, and plan business processes and geospatial planning in tourism and recreation. SC7. The ability to develop and implement innovations in the activities of tourism market entities. SC9. The ability to analyze, evaluate, and plan the inclusivity and accessibility of logistics flows in the tourism and recreation sector in the modern conditions of Ukraine's development. Professional Competencies (PC): PC1.1. The ability to conduct strategic marketing analysis and apply strategic management tools in the tourism sector. PC1.3. The ability to assess the quality of tourist services provided.
Learning outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to demonstrate the following learning outcomes (LO): LO2. Specialized skills to solve problems necessary for conducting research and/or innovation activities to develop new knowledge and procedures in tourism and recreation. LO3. The ability to apply modern digital technologies, methods, and tools for research and innovation activities to solve complex tasks in tourism and recreation. LO4. The ability to analyze the geospatial organization of tourism processes and project its strategic development based on sustainability principles. LO9. The ability to develop and implement tourism and recreation projects based on economic, social, and environmental efficiency. LO12. The ability to analyze, formulate, and implement national and regional tourism policy and improve destination management mechanisms at national, regional, and local levels. LO13. The ability to analyze, forecast, and use tourism and recreational potential effectively in the face of global challenges, particularly in the Lviv region. LO14. Specialized knowledge about the principles and practices of inclusivity and accessibility in tourism and recreation. LO16. The ability to apply and implement strategic management and marketing tools. LO19. The ability to utilize methods and techniques to solve specific data analysis tasks in the tourism industry. Communication (COM): COM 2. The ability to use a variety of methods, including information technologies, for effective communication at professional and social levels. Autonomy and Responsibility (AR): AR2. The ability to recognize the necessity of lifelong learning to deepen and acquire new professional knowledge. AR3. Summary of the subject: The academic discipline “Project Management in Tourism” is a mandatory component of the educational programme for full-time and part-time students at the second (master’s) level of higher education, specialising in 242 “Tourism and Recreation” under the educational and professional programme “Tourism Studies.” The primary aim of this discipline is to develop modern systems thinking in students, equipping them with a comprehensive set of specialised knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the development, planning, and implementation of tourism projects at various stages of their life cycle. Throughout the course, students acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge in project management, mastering the main methodological approaches to project planning and analysis, and learning to effectively apply management tools in real-world conditions within the tourism industry. Special attention is given to issues of organisational, personnel, resource, and informational-legal support for project activities. Students are introduced to all stages of a tourism project’s life cycle: from goal setting and concept development to result evaluation and the implementation of corrective measures. The key objectives of this discipline include providing students with a scientific and methodological foundation to build the capacity for professional project management within the modern tourism services market. This encompasses an understanding of project selection mechanisms, forecasting project success, risk assessment, and financial planning. Students will gain competencies in the following areas: developing a tourism project concept and business plan; planning, organising, and monitoring project execution; evaluating and substantiating the resource provision for a project; utilising modern project management tools; forecasting the development of tourism enterprises and making informed managerial decisions; risk analysis and strategy development for risk mitigation; and evaluating the economic efficiency of projects. Studying this discipline enables students to understand the role of project management as a crucial tool in ensuring the sustainable development of tourism enterprises within competitive and rapidly changing market conditions. Particular attention is paid to the study of international experience in the implementation of tourism projects and the adaptation of this knowledge to the realities of the Ukrainian tourism market. The course “Project Management in Tourism” promotes the formation of students’ skills in taking a comprehensive approach to project management and prepares them for professional activities in the tourism and recreation sector, equipping them to work effectively in a dynamic and competitive environment.

Assessment methods and criteria: The knowledge and skills of students in the study of this discipline are assessed through the following methods: 1. Ongoing assessment of student work: o Completion and oral defense (oral questioning) during laboratory and practical classes. o Completion and defense of control tasks (for part-time students). 2. Final assessment: Examination (written and oral components): Written component: o Level 1 tasks – multiple-choice tests. o Level 2 tasks – more complex multiple-choice tests. Oral component: o Level 3 tasks – oral questioning (explaining concepts, defining terms). Remote Learning: • Distance learning can be employed for specific academic activities, such as lectures, practical, and laboratory sessions, or in cases of quarantine. • Remote work in the Department of Tourism is conducted via MS Teams and Zoom. • During remote work (including quarantine conditions), oral interviews with students are conducted through video conferences during lectures, practical, and laboratory sessions. Written work is submitted via the Virtual Learning System (VLS) or emailed to the lecturer's institutional email (@lpnu.ua). • Remote sessions are conducted on the MS Teams and Zoom platforms.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: The grading and evaluation system follows specific criteria, ensuring that students demonstrate active engagement throughout the semester and accumulate 26 to 40 points from continuous assessments. For full-time students, the required continuous assessment tasks include: 1. Completion and defense of practical work: Each practical task is a full report and is awarded 1 point for content, formatting, and timely submission, plus a maximum of 1 point for defense. Practical work: 8 * 2 = 16 points. 2. Completion and defense of laboratory work: Each laboratory task is a full report and is awarded 1 point for content, formatting, and timely submission, plus a maximum of 2 points for defense. Laboratory work: 8 * 2 = 16 points. 3. Completion of test tasks for each topic: Test tasks: 8 * 1 = 8 points. A student who fails to accumulate at least 26 points from continuous assessment by the start of the exam session is not permitted to take the exam. During the final exam, students can earn a maximum of 60 points. The exam consists of written and oral components: 1. Written component: Level 1 tasks – 15 multiple-choice questions * 2 points = 30 points. Level 2 tasks – 5 complex multiple-choice questions * 4 points = 20 points. 2. Oral component: Level 3 tasks – oral questioning (explaining concepts, defining terms). Students can earn 0 to 10 points based on their response and reasoning during the oral examination.
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.

Particular attention is paid to the study of international experience in the implementation of tourism projects and the adaptation of this knowledge to the realities of the Ukrainian tourism market. The course “Project Management in Tourism” promotes the formation of students’ skills in taking a comprehensive approach to project management and prepares them for professional activities in the tourism and recreation sector, equipping them to work effectively in a dynamic and competitive environment.
Опис: Completion of coursework in accordance with the topics and requirements: The topics of coursework include the most important aspects of project management in the field of tourism and recreation. It is developed by the department and communicated to students. The student independently chooses the topic of the term paper depending on his or her research interests and agrees it with the teacher-consultant. The student may choose a topic of the course work not provided by the recommended topics, justifying its choice and compliance with the content of the discipline ‘Project Management in Tourism’. The term paper should contain: 1. title page; 2. tasks; 3. content of the course work; 4. introduction; 5. the main part; 6. conclusions; 7. list of references; 8. applications. The volume of the term paper should be within 40-50 pages of text.
Assessment methods and criteria: Methods of controlling the applicant's knowledge and skills during the course work are based on the results of current control. The course work is completed within one semester and submitted to the Department of Tourism no later than 2 weeks before the start of the test and examination session.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: The supervisor evaluates the course work according to the following main criteria: - the degree of compliance of the course work content with the assignment; - the degree of compliance of the term paper with the requirements established by the university; - the logical structure of the work as a whole and within individual sections; - the extent to which the work presents modern research on the issue, the criticality of the analysis of publications and approaches presented in the literature and other information sources; - the degree of completeness and detail in the disclosure of the main aspects of the course work; - availability of factual material, including primary material collected by the student, the scope and appropriateness of its use. - the degree of use of modern means of computing, information technology, methods of designing information systems; - availability and degree of validity of recommendations and proposals set out in the student's work. The course work is assessed on a 100-point scale. The grade for a student's course work consists of the points he or she receives for: the quality of the presentation of research materials (60 points) and the quality of the defence of the work itself (40 points). The quality of the presentation of research materials includes the disclosure of the research topic, proper argumentation of the results obtained, clarity of the presentation of the material, disclosure of the topic, achievement of the research goal and fulfilment of the tasks set in the term paper. The maximum number of points is 60.
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
