Learning outcomes: • to know the principles of choice and calculation of chemical reactors; • to choose the type of reactor for the phase state of the system reagents, for the mode of operation (periodic, semi-batch, continuous), for the thermal and hydrodynamic regime; • to calculate the material and heat balances of reactors using kinetic characteristics of the chemical process; • to carry out the technological calculation of reactors; • to perform the mechanical calculation of reaction apparatus; • to build a mathematical model of the reactor using kinetic data of reactions that take place.

Summary of the subject: Tasks of design of the reactor. Principles of the mathematical modeling of reactors. Processes occurring in the reactors. Modes of reactors. Mechanical calculation of reactors. Technological calculation of reactors according to existing plants. Ideal batch reactors. Semi-batch reactors. Ideal continuous reactors. Reactors operating in the auto-thermal mode. The structure of the flow in a real reactor. Reactors with laminar and turbulent flows. Reactors with axial and radial diffusion. The calculation of the combined reactor models. Reactors for heterogeneous systems. Reactors for heterophase systems. Calculation of pyrolysis furnaces.
Assessment methods and criteria: • graphical-calculation work, written express control (30%) • final control (exam): written-oral form (70%)
