Learning outcomes: To know: 1) traditional and new approaches to the classification and qualifications of lexical and grammatical units; 2) problems of modern lexicology and grammar; 3) theoretical basis for the creation of syntactic units; 4) the theory of formal grammars; 5) the theory of formal semantics. To be able to: 1) make the seme-component analysis, also the morphological, syntactic analysis; 2 to determine the structure of lexical meaning and changes in it; 3) to make a structural-semantic phraseological modeling; 4) to determine word-building model; 5) to define a syntax model.
Required prior and related subjects: - prerequisite: Introduction to Linguistics, Fundamentals of Applied Linguistics, Computational Linguistics; - corequisite: General Linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Computer Lexicography.
Summary of the subject: The formal languages and models in linguistics. The word in the lexical system of language. Semantic universals. Formal semantics. Lexical meaning of the word, its structure and changes in it. Grouping of Ukrainian language and formal models of lexicon. Theoretical bases of grammar. N. Chomsky’ formal grammar. Formal morphology. The formal syntax.
Assessment methods and criteria: - current control (50 %): test, oral questioning, defence of individual research projects. - final testing (50%): test in written and oral form.
