Summary of the subject: Morphology and diversity of microorganisms. Cultivation and growth of microorganisms. The influence of environmental factors on microorganisms. The metabolism of microorganisms. Alcohol, lactic and propionic acid fermentation. Respiration (Krebs cycle and respiratory chain). Genetics of microorganisms. Genetic recombination of prokaryotes. Regulation of metabolism in microorganisms. Ecology of microorganisms. Distribution of microorganisms in the air, water and soil. Relationship between microorganisms. Normal microflora of human. Clinical Microbiology. Diseases caused by different types of microorganisms.
Опис: The presentation of the material begins with a short historical essay on the discovery of microorganisms and the development of microbiology. The place of microorganisms in the living system, their structure and chemical composition, nutrition, cultivation methods, and the influence of environmental factors are considered. The diversity of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, their modern taxonomy, distribution in nature is presented. Features of energy and constructive exchanges of microorganisms, mechanisms of regulation of these processes, as well as possible ways of using microorganisms and products of their metabolism for practical purposes are highlighted. Considerable attention is paid to the genetics of microorganisms. The material of the last chapters is devoted to the relationship between micro- and macroorganisms, individual pathogenic microorganisms and the infectious diseases they cause are described.
Assessment methods and criteria: Methods used during classes:
- lectures are held in the form of conversation, discussion, using diagrams, various handouts and multimedia technologies;
- laboratory classes are conducted in the form of performing laboratory works according to the proposed methods;
- independent work is carried out in the form of completing individual tasks, their design and protection.
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: •Current control – 40 points ( written reports on laboratory work, oral examination – 20 points
