Summary of the subject: The difference between the state of public consciousness, which did not have time to interpret and assimilate news information, did not react in time to economic innovations, especially when it came to "wild" capitalization, and the state and quality of newspaper and magazine periodicals was noticeable in the early 1990s. century. Journalists, who in the times of state formation and cardinal socio-economic changes, by coincidence, had to actually form public opinion, developing value orientations, could not fully cope with this task. However, among the original answers of journalism to the demands of the realities of that time were the accelerated development and changes in genre formation. Note that these changes also applied to the audiovisual media. But, given the indisputable fact that in the 1990s the national television in Ukraine was underdeveloped, dominated by programs of the former metropolis or purely entertainment programs, we can talk about rapid radical changes in the national print media. Such an "explosion" of innovations in genre formation in periodicals was due to a subjective factor, which was then taken seriously by few. We are talking about the relative cheapness of energy and a fantastically low (compared to Western standards) price for paper. The latter was perhaps the main reason that the newspapers Komsomolskoe Znamya and Molod Ukrainy were published daily in the early 1990s, with 1.5 million and 800,000 copies, respectively. Due to the low cost of one copy of any printed publication (from "Silskie Visty" to the district newspaper), the average reader willingly read the course of events simultaneously from several printed sources. Naturally, being able to compare the quality of publications, the consumer of printed information made his choice in favor of a more competent publication and one where the way of presenting information best meets his spiritual and consumer needs. Later, due to the same subjective factors (repeated increase in energy prices, increase in prices by hundreds (!) Times of printing paper and inks), the process of rapid, "explosive" development of genre formation in the national press quickly declined. It happened in the late 90s of last century. This was facilitated by a certain "conservation" of socio-political processes during the ten-year presidency of Leonid Kuchma. At the same time, unsuccessful attempts were made to organize a national newspaper, Fakty i Kommentarii.
