Summary of the subject: Geoinformation systems and technologies is a modern applied science, the task of which is the processing, preservation and analysis of large arrays of geospatial data obtained as a result of aerospace surveying, field geodetic surveys, from cartographic and other sources for the purpose of modeling, forecasting and monitoring of geospatial objects. phenomena and processes. Mathematical models, various algorithms and methods of data formalization, classification and coding of information, theory and methodology of organization of geospatial data bases and analytical methods of their processing with the use of multifunctional software and technological complexes are the basis of GIS functioning. The range of GIS applications is extremely wide: cadastral systems, engineering research and design, regional management and planning, ecology, social sciences, etc. GIS is a tool for interdisciplinary research and projects related to mapping territories, solving problems of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources.
