Learning outcomes: Know modern methods and techniques of scientific research; mathematical methods of planning, conducting experiments and processing the experimental results; Be able to compare the results of experiments with theoretical preconditions and form the conclusions of research; formulate the research tasks and develop theoretical hypotheses for the solution of the set scientific problem; to select and analyze the necessary information in given scientific researches.
Required prior and related subjects: 1. Higher mathematics. 2. Technological maintenance of reliability of machine parts. 3. Mathematical modeling in engineering technology. 4. Information technologies for preparation of production of machine-building enterprise. 5. Metrological support of technological processes.
Summary of the subject: Scientific research in mechanical engineering. Science as a system of knowledge. Definition and main features of scientific research, their classification. Types and structure of research objects. Choice of scientific research direction. Conducting theoretical studies. Methods of experimental research. Processing of the results of experiments. Conducting bench and experimental-industrial tests. Construction of models of technological process by methods of passive experiment. Method of mathematical planning of the experiment. Analysis of theoretical and experimental studies. Fundamentals of engineering creativity.
Assessment methods and criteria: - tutorial's written reports, oral form, control work (30%) - final control (control measure): written-oral form (70%)

Information technologies for preparation of production of machine-building enterprise. 5. Metrological support of technological processes.
Summary of the subject: Development of mathematical models of processes that occur at different types of processing, mathematical planning of the experiment, research of phenomena, processes, design of the metal cutting tools.
Assessment methods and criteria: - schedule and graphic part of course work; job protection (test), oral form (100%).
