Мета вивчення дисципліни: To formulate general and speech competences (linguistic, socio-linguistic, professional, socio-cultural, pragmatic) to provide postgraduate students with the effective communication skills in business and professional environment.
Завдання: General competences: - ability to work in international contex - ability to generate fresh ideas (creativity) - ability to apply acquired knowledge in practice - ability to think critically, analyze and generalize - ability to use information and communication technologies - ability to communicate in a foreign language - ability to search, process and analyze informatin from a number of sources - ability to participate in interpersonal interaction and be respectful for cultural diversity - ability to work both, solely and in a team Professional competences: - linguistic, the one representing the level of possessing language norms and the ability to demonstrate language skills; - socio-linguistic, the one showing the ability to produce and identify a language style due to a particular communicative situation; - pragmatic, the one demonstrating language and paralinguistic knowledge and the ability of a speaker to use them to influence an interlocutor while communicating in a foreign lnguage.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the study learners are expected to be able to: • communicate in business environment including holding negotiations, signing treaties, holding job interviews, being interviewed. • make public presentations on a number of general issues in the business sphere using appropriate linguistic and non-linguistic means of communication; • write e-mails for business purposes conveying information of immediate relevance /close to professional life; • use business vocabulary, grammar, and specific word partnerships to effectively communicate in English-speaking business environment taking into account all the cultural peculiarities and business etiquette; • LR10 - communicate fluently in native and a foreign language for holding professional discussions, compiling analitical and research documentation; • LR12 - demonstrate interpretation and translation skills into and from a foreign language; • LR14 - use modern technologies, software, data bases and information systems to optimise learning a foreign language.

Assessment methods and criteria: Current control and differential credit. Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: Listening - Complete comprehension of the listening material. Students have to demonstrate the ability to comprehend and reproduce, interpret, memorise the material and perform oral and written tasks. Reading - students demonstrate the knowledge of the reading material; they are able to reproduce all the facts correctly; certain inconsistencies are allowed, however, students should demonstrate critical thinking, the ability to analyze and lay out the material consecutively. Students understand and can explain most of the words in a text, can translate and use them participating in a discussion. Speaking - students are able to express themselves on a given topic using lexical and grammar constructions, speak fluently and support their point of view by the help of language means and participate in discussions. Writing - students possess an appropriate level of knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. A written paper should be concise, coherent, logical (an essay, a letter, a summary, etc.) Presentation assessment criteria Presentation is prepared in accordance with the topic suggested and a plan devised by a student. The rules of a presentation and its format should be observed. A student demonstrates deep knowledge of a subject presenting the material clearly, logically, critically. Analytical approach and additional material to the topic are required. Presentation itself should be complex, coherent, argumentative, with an individual approach to solving a problem.
