Learning outcomes: 1. Ability to summarize the necessary data using advanced methods of physical research to build physical models of modern functional materials; to reveal the physical, natural-scientific essence of the problems that arise in the course of professional activity. 2. Ability to manage the spread of scientific and technological innovations; ability to involve employees in the development of progressive research methods of new materials on the basis of independent classes; willingness to generate, evaluate and use new ideas. 3. Knowledge of modern achievements in the field of theoretical experimental approach to the description of phenomena and effects in solid, in particular nanostructured materials. 4. Ability to synthesize functional materials, to conduct their experimental and theoretical analyzes. 5. Ability to create on the basis of modern functional materials devices of electronic technology and energy.

Summary of the subject: Diffraction methods of crystal structure analysis: X-ray analysis, electronography, neutronography. Determination of the composition, structure of solids and concentration profiles by the main and impurity components by electron and ion spectroscopy. Electron microscopic research methods: transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Surface analysis by scanning probes - tunnel and atomic force microscopy.
Assessment methods and criteria: Current control (40%): oral questioning, presentations at seminars, tests, individual written work. The final test (60%): exam.
