Learning outcomes: - knowledge of theoretical and methodological research principles of foreign policy, its main types, ability to define concepts, categories and criteria for the formation of foreign policy of Ukraine at different stages of its development; - ability to identify historical types of foreign policy of Ukraine and to analyse the interaction of both internal and external factors and their impact on foreign policy of Ukraine, to analyse national interests of Ukraine and the effectiveness of state institutions in their implementation; - ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic diplomatic principles that form the basis of Ukraine’s cooperation with international organizations, especially the structural subsection of the United Nations (UN); - knowledge of special features and problems and Ukraine's joining political and economic integration process, in particular within the EU; - ability to identify problems and prospects of Ukraine's cooperation with international financial institutions (WTO, IMF, WB, EBRD); - knowledge of specifics of security and defence integration of Ukraine (within the Euro Atlantic or the post-Soviet region); - knowledge of formation and development features of mutually beneficial cooperation with countries of the former Soviet Union (in particular within the CIS, GUAM); - understanding of specificity of the formation and development of bilateral relations and strategic partnership (with Russia, countries of Western, Central, Eastern Europe and North America); - ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the state and prospects of bilateral and multilateral relations with countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific; - ability to make predictions and to offer various options of possible developments in bilateral and multilateral Ukraine’s foreign policy interactions with countries and international organizations.

Summary of the subject: Theoretical and methodological foundations of Ukraine’s foreign policy researches. The main historical periods of its development. International recognition of the independence of Ukraine and its emergence as an actor of international relations. Conceptual foundations of Ukraine's foreign policy and its regulatory content. Participation of Ukraine in the UN activities. Participation of Ukraine in the UN peacekeeping. The main directions of the strategic partnership of Ukraine. Origins, current state and prospects of Ukrainian-Russian relations. Ukraine’s national interests in Europe. Ukraine's strategic relationship with the US and Canada. Ensuring of national security and Ukraine’s foreign policy. Ukraine-NATO relations in the context of Ukrainian and European security. Priority directions of Ukraine's participation in European and post-Soviet security organizations. Economic dimension of Ukraine’s foreign policy. Legal grounds and mechanisms of integration of Ukraine to the EU. Realization of Ukraine's foreign policy goals by participating in the WTO. Features of cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF, WB, EBRD. Economic priorities of Ukraine at the former Soviet space. Ukraine and integration processes at the former Soviet space. Activity of Ukraine in the CIS: cooperation priorities and problems of interaction. Establishment and development of foreign and economic relations with the countries of Asia-Pacific, the Middle, Middle East and Africa.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Current control (40% - oral examination, reports, discussions, writing essays, case-study research, preparation of presentations on a given topic). • Final control (60% - three-level testing).
