Learning outcomes: • ability to solve complex technological problems and problems of biotechnology and bioengineering, which involves research and innovation, taking into account the economic situation, universal values and personal, social and industrial interests; • ability to show initiative and entrepreneurship; • ability to select and analyze relevant data, including using modern data analysis methods and specialized software; • understanding of methods, approaches, goals and objectives of scientific and pedagogical activities and the educational process; • ability to use the methodology of scientific creativity and the organization and conduct of scientific research; • ability to use professional knowledge in the field of mathematical statistics and statistical processing of experimental data modeling of biotechnological processes using a mathematical apparatus.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites: • Bioinformatics; • Methodology and organisation of scientific investigations, intellectual property and innovation theory Co-requisites: • Workshop on preparation of scientific publications, conference materials and presentations of scientific reports • Special course - Biological activity of physiologically active substances.
Summary of the subject: The concept, function, and importance of a science. Methodology and method of scientific research. Requirements for scientific research. Types of research. Typology of methods. The structure of the study. The objectives and tasks of the study. The choice of research methods. Analysis of results and their discussion. Conclusions and an assessment of the results. Documentation of reports, articles, theses and abstracts, diploma projects.
Assessment methods and criteria: • written report from laboratory work, oral questioning, final test – 40 points; • final control (test) – 60 points (written-oral form)
