Learning outcomes: - be able to choose and apply the most suitable methods of mathematical modeling and optimization in the development of scientific and technical projects. - know the molecular organization and regulation of gene expression, replication, recombination and repair, restriction and modification of genetic material in pro- and eukaryotes, the strategy of creating recombinant DNA for targeted construction of biological agents. - to know and evaluate the main methods of cultivation of eukaryotic cells of animal and plant origin, to develop new technologies for their application in scientific purposes, medicine, agriculture, etc. - have the skills of isolation, identification, storage, cultivation, immobilization of biological agents, optimize nutrient media, choose the best methods of analysis, isolation and purification of the target product, using modern biotechnological methods and techniques inherent in a particular area of biotechnology. - assess the relevance of the studied scientific problems, the suitability of known scientific methods for their study based on the analysis of available data and publications in leading publications. - have the skills to plan and perform experimental research both personally and in a team, critical analysis of the results; registration of research results in the form of a report, scientific publication, presentation at scientific and other events.

Summary of the subject: The concept of biological activity of physiologically active substances. Issues, tasks and perspectives in the study of biological effects of chemical substances. Test systems and biological models of research of biological activity of compounds. Characteristics of study methods of biological activity of new chemical substances. Prediction of biological activity in silico. Computer programs PASS (Prediction of Activity Spectra for Substances), AVCpred (Antiviral Compound Prediction), CLC-Pred (Cell Line Cytotoxicity Predictor). Experimental methods of studying biological activity of compounds in vitro and in vivo. Computer design of biological active compounds.
Assessment methods and criteria: • current control: written reports for laboratory works, oral examination, written tests (40%) • summary control: examination (exam) written-oral form (60%)
