Learning outcomes: •Ability to plan and perform experimental work in the field of biotechnology using modern equipment and methods, to interpret the data on the basis of a set of modern knowledge and ideas about the object and subject of research, to draw sound conclusions.; • Ability to use knowledge about enzymes and enzyme preparations, understanding of technologies for designing bioorganic catalysts with specified properties based on enzymes or their complexes. • Know and evaluate the main methods of cultivation of eukaryotic cells of animal and plant origin, develop new technologies for their use in scientific purposes, medicine, agriculture, etc. • Have the skills of isolation, identification, storage, cultivation, immobilization of biological agents, optimize nutrient media, choose the best methods of analysis, isolation and purification of the target product, using modern biotechnological methods and techniques specific to a particular area of biotechnology. • Plan and manage research, scientific and technical and / or production projects in the field of biotechnology, based on current trends in science, technology and society.

Summary of the subject: Cellulases, structure and functions. Sources of cellulolytic enzymes. Hydrolysis of cellulose by cellulases. The use of cellulases in the food industry. Beta-glucosidases and beta-galactosidases. Pectin enzymes. Xylanolytic enzymes. Enzymatic hydrolysis of beta-glycans.
Assessment methods and criteria: • oral questioning, written reports on laboratory works – 20 points; • final control (exam) – 80 points (written-oral form).
