Learning outcomes: • to know the scientific basis of catalysis; • to have the concept of building, structure and physic-chemical properties of catalysts-enzymes; • to know the principles and mechanisms of action of enzymes and to understand the causes of acceleration of biochemical reactions by enzymes; • to know the kinetic laws of the catalytic enzyme processes; • to carry out comprehensive research to determine the physical, chemical and catalytic properties of enzymes; • to choose an effective catalyst for enzyme-specific reaction.

Summary of the subject: Classification of catalytic reactions and basic principles of catalysis. The mechanisms of catalytic reactions. Structural organization enzymes and their substrate specificity. The general ideas of the enzymes action. Functional groups of enzymes and their role in catalysis. Coenzymes, prosthetic groups and enzyme activators. Mechanism of enzymatic reactions. Concepts kinetics of enzymatic catalysis. Biosynthesis of enzymes and regulation of enzyme system in the cells.
Assessment methods and criteria: • written reports on laboratory works, express control, control work (30%) • final control (exam): written-oral form (70%)
