Learning outcomes: • to master the basic concepts of computer-aided design; • to get acquainted with modern CAD in mechanical engineering; • to obtain skills to work with two-dimensional modeling among basic graphical CAD systems. • to know the the scientific and theoretical basis and the possibility of using CAD in the design of products and technological processes in mechanical engineering.

Summary of the subject: The systems approach to design. The concept of engineering design. The principles of the system approach. Hierarchic design levels. Stages of products designing. Computer aided design systems in terms of other automated systems. The stages of the life cycle of industrial products. Systems of functional , design and technological design. The structure and types of CAD. Types of CAD software. The concept of CALS-technologies. The basic functions and design procedures implemented in CAD software. Parameterization and associativity. Examples of CAD / CAM / CAE software. Technical support of CAD systems. Virtual engineering. Geometric modeling in CAD. Two-dimensional modeling. Types of anchors and their implementation. Methods of selection of two-dimensional objects. Basic methods of editing two-dimensional objects. Sizes and technological designations and their implementation. Designing of the project and its implementation. Creating of drawings fragments, libraries of parameterized cells and parameterized models. Create specifications.
Assessment methods and criteria: • written reports on laboratory work, oral examination, reference work (40%) • final control (60% control measure, exam), written-oral form (60%)
