Learning outcomes: To know: - technical standard and organizational basis for standardization and certification of materials and products of metallurgical and other types of production; - аccreditation procedure for testing laboratories; - harmonization of state standards of Ukraine with European norms and standards; - normative and technical documents of the field of materials science, in particular, for studying of the physical and mechanical properties and structure of metallic and non-metallic materials. Be able:  - control compliance of materials and products with the requirements of normative and technical documents; - choose the methods and means of testing equipment and conduct physical and mechanical properties tests to issue a certificate for materials; - apply in practice the basic principles of quality management and the elements of the product quality system with international standards; - select and apply bar coding, know the structure and characteristics of bar codes.

Summary of the subject: General information about standardization. Structure of bodies in the sphere of standardization. Standards in Ukraine. State standards and technical conditions for metallurgical products. Technical documentation for metallic and non-metallic materials. Certification: basic terms and definitions. State certification system in Ukraine. Schemes of certification of materials and products. Types of laboratories for testing materials. Experimental samples for testing of metal products. Test equipment, test methods. Bar coding of materials and products. Coding the delivery units of materials. Quality management by state standards. Resource management and material production planning. Fundamentals of metrology. Structure and functions of the metrological service of Ukraine. Types and dimensions of physical quantities and standards. Means of measuring equipment. Metrological examination of technical documentation.
Assessment methods and criteria: 1. Сurrent control: interviews during the laboratory works, written reports, essays on the topic of individual assignments (30%); 2. Examination: written-oral form (70%).
